Spent the last two days in Sedona AZ. I had know idea how beautiful this place is. I spent the first night about halfway through the Outlaw trail on a hilltop west of town. Fantastic spot to watch the sun go down and the stars come out (33.90026,-111.93774). Granted, it's all dirt and rocks, no place you would want to put a tent down. But I have a Go Fast Camper so I can camp anywhere I can park.

Too my surprise, I had a cell connection which means internet via a hotspot on my phone. So I started looking for things to do and came across the "Broken Arrow" trail. Sounded like fun so I headed out early then next morning to run it.

I'm new to four wheeling and this was, without a doubt, the most clench-worthy trail I've done so far. Loads of fun and a lot of second guessing. The view from Chicken Point is jaw dropping. On the way back I got to experience Mushroom Hill and the small side challenge it has for those who try. I needed more experience, so I tried. I was lucky to have a couple in a side-by-side stop and video me driving down the slide.

Way back when I got my taco (8/19) I wondered if the long bed might be a bad choice for off roading. After today, I don't wonder anymore. These trucks can go anywhere.

Old Man Emu Nitrocharger shocks with the heavy 2888 spring rate
OME Dakar heavy duty rear springs, 660 lbs rate.
33 inch KM3 mud terrain tires, stock wheels
    Professionally done cab mount chop
Front and rear high clearance bumpers from Mobtown offroad, rear swing out.
    Race Relation rock sliders
Full set of aluminum under armor from RCI
    RCI steel diff skid
    Go Fast Camper

I went heavy on the springs due to the 130lb front bumper and the 70lb winch I plan to put on. I got the heavy duty Dakars because of the weight of the camper which is really light (300lbs) compared to the competition (Drifter, Snap treehouse, AT overland). I got the GFC because I didn't want my camper to hold me back from offroading. I am so far very pleased with the result.

If you want a short wheelbase crawler, buy a wrangler. If you want an overland truck that can haul all your gear and go anywhere in the world, and still leave you room to sleep in the bed, get the 6' tacoma.

I agree. I've hit plenty of trails with my DCLB!! Unless it's a difficult rock crawling trail, a longbed will do fine on a lot of trails out there.

Nice to see people build them for use other than mall crawling.

Mines stock, and I worry about a car door ding in a parking lot.

The DCLB is the best - you can sleep in the back if you want to:

And the tow manners are much better because of the wheelbase. You can tow your camper to the trailhead, wheel all day, sleep in an actual bed, and drive home.

And it'll go anywhere the SB will go. I'm open/open with no lockers. The traction control works pretty well. I haven't had too much trouble keeping up with the folks with lockers.

...Even if that means I've used the sliders a lot. You use the sliders a lot with a DCLB. Crunch.

I've gotten stuck more times than I'm willing to count on my sliders. :anonymous:

I’m jealous of all you long beds. Any one want a manual short bed to trade? :D

Is that a prefab aluminum frame or did you build it? Anywhere to get similar parts?

I built it out of t-slot - my build thread has some photos in the 2nd post: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hammerhead-the-4x4-dclb-tow-and-trail-rig.671016/#post-23557721

    DCLB for the win !!!!

    Always.

This is my 2nd DCLB and I loved them both. The only problem I ever had was on tight switch backs but so did the DCSB trucks.

Sedona is definitely one of the most beautiful spots in the southwest.

I thought the SB was the only capable offroad truck? J/K Toyota Canada must think so as only the TRD OR and Pro get a SB up here. The rest of us not worthy get the LB and stick to the pavement.
