After seeing what my neighbor went through trying to get his 6 year old clear bra off his BMW, I decided to remove my 4 year old plastic film off my truck. Probably should have done it at 3 years. It is coming off, but in pieces. Not as bad as had I waited a few year because the 6 year old plastic was already cracked. Mine is coming up but it isn't easy, and if I can get a 6" section, I am happy.

I had high hopes for a thread about removing a bra before it was too late. Oh well :anonymous:

I figure by the time my clear removes itself my frame will be rotted so I'm gonna stay as is.

Must be the grade of paint protection film used. The factory film applied in front of the rear wheelwell holds up just fine even after being dragged through the bush for 8 years, in my experience.

I think that is different than the port installed paint protectant that is put on the hood and mirrors. Mine is starting to haze and splotch. Supposed to have a lifetime warranty, but the dealer is claiming 'environmental' conditions are causing it. He couldn't explain to me why these 'environmental' forces impacted the protectant, but not the paint. He tried to say "the protector did it's job and protected the paint. Oddly exposed paint where it meets the protector is just fine. I asked him to explain why my paint wasn't cloudy. Seems to me that whatever degraded the plastic, should have degraded the paint, but when I take off the protector the paint that was under the protector looks just like the paint that was exposed the entire time.

my clear bra is already yellow and has weird rust looking dots in some areas. it's a 2021. can't imagine how bad it will look in 5 years.

Interesting. My oldest PPF is now 5 years old. I was told to change it at 10. I was planning on changing it at 8 if I decide to keep the car. I would have it professionally changed though.

    Oh look, another mod....
I was going to post a funny gif about bra removal. Then I paused and thought "Wait a second, I'm at work...that wouldn't be a great idea to do a Google search for "Bra removal gif's".

clear bra on my wife's acura mdx was chipping/peeling in the corners after 7 years. it was high quality film professionally installed (i forgot the brand). professionals were going to charge me the $900 to remove it. decided to diy and took me 14 hours and 6 decal eraser wheels to remove everything - bumper, fender, hood & side mirrors. im never clear bra-ing anything again

Similar to what my friends car looked like. Once you get those cracks, it is impossible to peel.

Must be the factory grade stuff, my 2020 the rear panel ones behind wheel well and cab were yellowing after 2.5 years. You can tell its the older tech PPF similar to old yellowing thick 3m stuff. A decent newer PPF like XPEL, STEK, KAVACA, etc. will not do this if maintained properly. Its a trade off, I've ran PPF and my truck looked new free of road rash, ran without and 2 years in looked like an acne prone teenager even with giving space, etc.

That doesn't look great. I wonder how difficult it would be to remove in that condition?
