Original filter on the left. New filter on the right. A lot of the recent reviews on Amazon and Walmart seem to write the same thing- Mobil1 changed the filter design but kept the model number and price the same. Don't waste your money!

Looks like it was changed years ago. Here's an angry fella discussing it back in 2020.

The one on the right looks like Toyota’s OEM filter for my Lexus RX350’s 2GR-FE. I’ve had no problems with ‘em. Apparently it’s a product design and COO change for the Mobile1 filters, but why do you think it’s a waste of money?

if you trusted their first one, why wouldn't you trust their second one???

is mobile 1 out to get us all?? i use their oils in many of my vehicles

its much easier if you just buy an oem toyota filter, take the guessing right out of the equation

The one on the left looks similar to the TRD filter, the right like the common OEM one.

Is the new version an improvement in function?

    Wow, that guy is stressed.
I highly doubt a huge company like Mobil1 would replace/upgrade a filter design without thoroughly testing it to make sure it meets or exceeds the claims on their packaging. They prob changed the design to save some manufacturing $$$ and improve the recyclability.
That guy needs to just return his filter, get a refund and then chill before he has a stroke.

That said, I always try to use OEM filters but I have been scammed in the past with counterfeit ones on eBay so you gotta be careful and trust your source....

Why is the design change a waste of money, seems like a responsible thing to do, eliminating the metal in the filter that isn't needed to begin with. I have had this new filter in 2 oil changes so far and experienced no issues.

I wish i could here, but all of them charge about $9 apiece. I've seen them being sold by online toyota dealers for around that price you listed, or less, but the shipping is always over $10 to get them here.

Because the MSRP is still $20 for a $5 filter.

I'm certain it's still trustworthy, I never said the new one was bad or doesn't perform as well.

It's just that a lot of people usually go to Mobil1 for the premium filters. Their spin-ons have always been a step above FRAM.

I just ran out of the box of originals and didn't expect a product to change so much. It's like buying cheerios, opening the box and it's filled with rasin bran. It'll still feed my fat ass, it's just different.

Gonna trust the shit out of it. Just put one in this weekend.

My local Walmart has them. Don't remember exact price but was under five bucks.

Just my personal preference, I stick with OEM oil filters but will only use Mobil 1 oil.

I bought the Mobile 1 filter over the weekend as part of a package deal at Carquest. Agree with OP that it’s just a paper filter. Would not pay full price for this.

Thread necromancing here but I have a newer cheapened M1C-251A that doesn’t even fit over the intake tube on either of my OEM Toyota filter housings. The opening on the filter is too small. Another word of warning on these.
