My RSI Smartcap's locks are completely frozen right now.

Can't get the key in... One side was completely unlocked but I can't even push the padlocks to flip to open my cap.

This could literally kill someone in the wrong weather.

Right now it's about -15C with about 6" of snow on the ground and I can't get to my cold weather gear as it's completely locked/frozen inside my Smartcap.

I mean it makes sense as this is a South African company with no experience with snow.

However, they need to do a product recall if this is the best they can do.

I've had a few different caps over the years and this has happened to all of them in extreme temps. Little hot water or heat gun thaws em out quickly.

I've never seen a canopy lock that doesn't freeze in the winter. Spray some alcohol in there to melt the ice.

Really. I heard that if you mix humid air or water with cold temperatures you get frozen things. Here... let me help you out...

Pretty sure mother nature does not care what brand of cap or what lock you have on anything. Get it cold enough with moisture and *magic* it's froze up.

This can happen to any automotive lock cores during the winter.

Inhale deeply, pucker up, gently slowly blow your steamy exhalation into the lock core, take the key out of your warm pocket, insert, and unlock.

The doors on my Taco froze shut a few years ago in an ice storm. Couldn't even pull the handle. I could have died. Toyota should recall them and reimburse me for my pain and suffering, if that's the best they can do.

    Responses have not disappointed.

Hey so, if it’s 120 degrees out and the seat belt metal burns your hand, will Toyota assist? Clearly a defect.

Keep a bottle of blaster lock lube / de-icer in the glove box. Always good to have lube handy. Almost Friday, I can sense it.
