Bought a 2018 and wish i got the sunroof. Planning on keeping this thing forever. Thinking about trying to trade it back in and get one with a sunroof.

What are the long term cons of having sunroof? Possible ejection in a bad rollover accident is the only thing i can really think of. I am 5 foot 7 so no issues with the lower height.

Mine always, eventually leak. Sun/moon roof is one of the things I try to avoid.

    Potential leaks?

I’ve always been a sunroof guy but got my Tacoma without one and I’ve adjusted to life without one quicker than I thought I would for what it’s worth.

Love mine looks good popped up. I like wind noise so in cold weather i pop it up and it doesn’t allow cold air in like a window. And of course its great in nice weather to have fully open.

Have the sun/moonroof on both my Tacoma and both of my wife’s Prii. Never had an issue with any factory Toyota sun/moonroof.

I normally only use it from November to March. The rest of the rear the sun’s too high and shining down on my face. Keeping everything closed up above keeps the sun out.

But...when the weather is actually nice out it is awesome to have.

I love mine. Usually if it’s comfortable and dry out, I’ll have all 4 windows down, the sunroof open, and the rear slider open as well. Plus, I always leave the fabric slider open as I enjoy the natural light that the glass lets in.

No issues with any sunroofs I’ve had in the past. I’ve personally never had leaks. When I sold my last Tacoma with a sunroof, I opted to go one without when I bought the new one. I am 5’11” so could use the extra headroom.

if you're tall some say they hit their head because it lowers the roof slightly... me being 6'2 dont really have this issue unless i hit a hard bump... i've never had a leaky moon roof problem but have only owned 3 cars with it and one was a 94 explorer that had the stock moonroof and didnt leak.

also just a bit of history/knowledge a sunroof does not move or open it is strictly for looks while a moonroof opens.

I think your chance of being ejected in a rollover is lower than your chance of winning the powerball and being stuck by lightning on the same day -- especially if you're wearing your seatbelt.

That said, if you're a sunroof type and want to pay thousands of bucks to get one, well, go for it -- it's your money. I've had cars with and without sunroofs and can honestly say having one means zilch to me. Yes, nice to have every once in a while on a nice day, but not having one never make me pull over to the side of the road and re-evaluate my life choices.

    Cheers.

Wow, hard decision. My wife hates them, and always keeps the sun shade shut. I drive 80% with it angled up, even in cold weather. Cons, some have leaked, not an issue I’ve ever had in 25 years of Toyota’s. As far an ejection on rollover. Dude if your accident is one where you’d get ejected through a sun roof you are just as dead.

I had pop up style after markets installed in some Nissans, not bad. Dealer may be able to get it done “at the port” for less money than a trade back will slam you. Perhaps a live and learn moment, worse things in life than no sunroof for the next 150k miles.

Had a sunroof in our 01 Taco TRD OR AC. Never a problem in 17 years. Just swapped for an 18 Taco TRD Sport AC. No sunroof option available from Toyota. Had one installed by a reputable & experienced local custom business. No problems since the April install. We need the extra ventilation for the Siberian Husky in the back seat.

Sunroof is awesome in my truck, like it even more than I thought I would.

On my daily driver I have a sunroof which I maybe used 5 times since I bought the car 2013.
I really liked the car on the dealer lot and still like it for that matter but the sunroof was for me never a point for a the decision.
So my cons are the following:
    - might leak
    - more parts to break
    - you might forget to close it when parked
    - higher fuel consumption when open
    - less head room and the Tacoma is already small
    - glass might break and hits your face when roll over
    - seals get green after a while
    - faster heat buildup!?
    - air conditioning
    - birds might poop on you ;)
    - messes up your hair

Less headroom...more cramped cabin with a sunroof.

I've never really had a issue with sunroofs in 18 years, but I always worry about newer ones having sensors fail, motors fail or anything like that.

My first sunroof was a manual crank. All my others have been electric. But for my Tacoma I opted for no sunroof because I just never use them much.

I have one in my Accord, but to be honest, rarely use it...a few days per month for a few miles. It’s something that I was initially happy to have, but the novelty has worn off. Best use for mine is to keep interior temperature down on extremely hot summer day.

I would not have a truck, suv or sportscar without one. Loved the glass targa top in my vette, too.

It’s the other way around, a moonroof does not open. FYI only.

Your semantics don’t matter. Toyota calls it a moonroof. And it moves.
