Has anyone used the Progressive "Snapshot" for the entire 6 months and if so what is your opinion of it? Ive had mine in for about 3 weeks and its beeped at me 4 times. Once was going over a speedbump at low speed. Just wondering what ya'll think about it.

Waist of time IMO. I did it for 3 months and even though my driving was reported better than most, my commute was 4 miles per day too long. They then raised my rates due to my zip code having higher than normal claims, so I told them to go #$%* themselves.

Pretty much an excuse to raise your rates.

The insurance company doesn't need to know how I drive and when. They need to know when I've been in an accident and that's it.

Do you really think an insurance company would offer a product that will cause your rate to decrease? Absolutely not. I would take that thing off asap.

i used progressive snapshot for roughly 2 yrs

i dont know if they changed the program, but it was a ~6mo in your vehicle and after that send it back and keep whatever discount you earned

it was phenomenal, I maxed out at 30% and did not experience any rate changes.
to nip the zip code guy, yes, if you have a outofdate zip and they update it, it will change your payment. with or without snapshot.
would you be more prone to leave your car outside in a nice part of town where less crime happens, or in the ghetto where ppl be jacking shit and making claims

it's great for customers that don't drive like they are in a race to every light, and if you can downshift oh boy...

heres why they would "offer a product to decrease your rate"

it's good for the company because you are consciously thinking about driving SAFELY. In the event of a crash they also have a few statistics that could be helpful. but at the end of the day, if you drive cautiously (hitting all their marks {not speeding, not braking hard, and not during high traffic times}) you will be in less accidents, and less claims will be filed, saving them money. hmm... sounds like a promotion that any credit card might run or any utility/phone provider.

another perk for them, when you are shopping for new insurance you don't start with the discount, and you have to re earn it & abide by different rules. all state doesn't let you send the device back and keep the discount.
this makes a excuse to keep your current insurance. like you would at your bank, oh but i have my direct deposit, or my bills are set up already... think of all the excuses you made last time someone offered you something and you didn't want to change. this is another excuse to keep you with them. smart gimmick!

i also used all states drive wise, like i said above, progressive may have changed from when i did it, but drive wise doesn't let you earn the discount and then not provide proof that you are still driving safely, so you must keep it and keep driving good to get good discounts.

now that i puked a bunch of text all over your page...
IMO; take the % discount and enjoy the savings.

I got a little curious about it when I saw some of the ads, and realized when I read up on what it actually does that I'd set off literally every "red flag" they have in their system; at least in my car, probably a bit less so in the truck but good luck never braking hard in L.A. traffic where the freeway will go from 40+ mph to a dead stop across three lanes for no apparent reason and if you ever allow more than 1.25 car-lengths gap in front of you somebody will merge into it within 35 seconds. They also ding you for driving in late at night (1-2 AM), which I've been doing less lately but used to do frequently.

Not sure if my current company has a similar gadget, but I'll stick with getting my current "good driver" discount for just having not had any points on my license in over 20 years (I did traffic school for the one ticket I had in that stretch, which was over 10 years ago now) and having the only accident I've been in over the same stretch not my fault (got rear-ended back in 2000)...

Wonder how much it would change things. I was reading the other day that only something like 5 states base their rates on the driving record of the person and where they live. The others are based on a credit profile. I guess all those aggressive drivers have poor credit?

Ive read a few reviews online and it sounds like the benefit comes when they raise your rates when it time to renew. Meaning that when they up your rates because they "review" the area you live in, it can be offset by snapshot if you are a good driver. I haven't seen anyone that got an actual 30% discount. Im still open to listening what you guys have to say. For some reason i value the opinion of you guys.:)

There's probably a lot of "lawyering" involved in that 30% claim (like it's 30% off the liability premium portion of the bill only), and to get the full deal, you probably have to drive like a housewife/nanny in a deep suburb (never drive over 40 mph, no revs over 1500 rpm, brake for 200 yards to stop from 30 mph and drive a max of 20-30 miles/day all between 8AM and 4PM).

Any divergence from that pattern, and you'll start to lose "discount" points off the baseline rate which assumes you drive like Paul Walker (or his character in F&F).

30% off the vehicle that is registered

and the speed limit is like 80, hard braking is pretty easy to avoid unless you find it difficult to drive like a normal human outside of CA. i generally follow 3-4 seconds away, plenty of time to stop, and 3 second delay after a green light.
