Problems with SuperLube Grease

Hey guys so I recently replaced my Icon UCA bushings with oem Icon equipment due to squeaking that wouldn't stop even after thorough greasing. I've since torn apart each side of the front end 4 times each, removing the uca and liberally greasing every piece of every bushing and sleeve with SuperLube grease. The squeaking goes away for a day or two then comes back. Every time I take apart the bushings to re-grease, it looks like all of the old grease leaked out already. No clue as to where it went.

I'm wondering if SuperLube had a formula change or is too watery now for what I'm asking of it. Does anyone have any other suggestions for grease? Quite unimpressed with SuperLube lately.

 

SuperLube is good a grease but not for poly bushings. IIRC Total Chaos recommends SuperLube for their UCAs. I tried SuperLube for my Icon UCAs & leaf poly bushings. It's not the proper grease for poly suspension bushings, squeak comes back in only a few days as you've experienced. SuperLube has a silicone formula too which I didn't bother trying but I doubt it'll work. I've heard of some people using Marine grease too which I have my doubts about too.

You need a silicone lube formulated specifically for poly bushings, it's very tacky. Like Energy Suspension Formula 5. I have ES Formula 5 but it does not come in grease gun tubes. It's so damn tacky there's no way I'm gonna try filling a grease gun the old way with it, too messy. So I just use it for initial assembly.

I use Daystar poly bushing grease. It only comes in the little 3oz grease gun tubes though. Fine by me cause the mini grease gun is easier to use when lubing my UCAs. I buy it from Amazon or ebay, whatever's cheaper at the time. Last 3 I bought were $16ea. Squeak never comes back, I relube everything every oil change.

Prothane also sells the proper grease & comes in full 14oz tubes. Cheaper by volume than the Daystar. I'm stupid for paying more for the Daystar but I like using the little grease gun.

Yup no problem. Believe me I know, I went through the same thing as you. It's such a huge difference using the proper poly bushing grease. I believe it's cause Total Chaos has a video where they say to use SuperLube & you know how it goes, everyone watches & believes YouTube.

$50 is what I remember the full size tube of Prothane costs. Pretty expensive compared to tubes of just general purpose grease. But you'll see, it's well worth it, works, & will last you a long time. Heck the little 3oz tubes last me a while, the bushing don't need much when it's the right stuff.

I'm sure you already know but just in case you don't or anyone else reading this. When you lube the zerks on your UCAs, you are supposed to loosen the UCA bolt/nut first, then pump in the grease. Doesn't need a lot, should see it squeeze out in between the bushing & washers. When you retighten the UCA bolts, truck has to be sitting on the ground at ride height. For my truck (1st gen) I don't need to jack it up to access the UCA zerks.

If you don't loosen the UCAs, when you try to pump grease in it won't go in & you risk swelling the bushings. I retorque to OEM spec & I have TC shock bucket gussets too.

 

I used

$21 super lube 92150 silicone lubricating grease with PTFE, 14.1 oz cartridge, translucent white, onе paсk

super lube 92150 which is the silicone / PTFE formula and have not had any issues with my poly bushing dirt king ucas. It does thin out a bit with engine bay/ambient heat but I haven’t noticed any return of squeaks in probably 5000 miles.

edit: the price for a tube of this stuff has gotten nuts, I don’t remember paying $30+ for it last year.

edit 2: they increased the price 200%+, my Amazon order was 14.95 may of 2021. It’s currently $30+ even on superlube website.

 

I ended up going with the Daystar Poly Lube (KU11004) and a mini grease gun for a good deal on summit. One tube was plenty to coat both sides liberally with grease. No more squeaks yet. I can definitely tell the Daystar lube is stickier with much better adhesion than the SuperLube. I believe this was the fix. Thank you guys!

 

How does the Daystar grease work with the grease gun? Thin enough to flow through the flutes in the bushings?
