Hi guys, long time lurker finally decided to make an account. Anyways, I replaced my UCA’s last weekend with dirt kings ball joint UCA’s. Today when looking over everything I noticed they seems to be pushing grease out of the sides. Is this normal for aftermarket UCA’s with a poly bushing or did I do something wrong? I think I did everything right, pumped in grease with the bolt loose, put the truck down on its own weight, torqued it down to 85 ft pounds then cleaned off the extra grease. Thanks for any help!

Mine didn't do that but looks like maybe you added a little too much grease.

Looks fine. When I grease my JBAs I pump grease in until it comes out that space.

Mine did that. I think I added just a little too much. Same procedure as you followed to avoid mushrooming the bushings. Wiped off the excess and no issues up to when I sold the vehicle they were on.

Once you've pumped with grease and then tighten the UCA bolt, use a pick to push the zerk nib. This will take the pressure off the bushings and prevent blowing them out.

That looks standard, after greasing (you'll only need 2-3 pumps per pivot) we use Prothane Super grease, you'll want to torque the UCA bolt with the weight of the vehicle on the ground and wipe of any excess grease, as stated above you can relieve pressure via the zerk fitting as well

Okay that’s good to hear. Just to clarify this was after having them installed for a week following the steps stated above. I cleaned the excess grease off after installation then noticed they were still pushing grease out after driving on them a few times. I’m assuming I just over greased them but wanted to be sure since this is my first set of aftermarket UCA’s I’ve used and was worried I might have damaged the bushings. I’m used super lube but will try prothane next time

Anything with a zerk will typically shed some grease. I believe it is how they are designed to work.

i think its normal after just filling them with grease as they move and the grease may push out

@Dirt King Fab are you suppose to grease them suspended and with the bolts loose or can you just loosen the bolts and grease them just sitting in the driveway with the vehicle weight on them? Doing mine for the first time next weekend, about 5k miles on them.

^Have you tried reaching the zerks while the truck is on the ground with the tires on?

I'm pretty sure I torqued the bolt down with truck suspended, do I need to just go ahead and order new bushings and plan on replacing soon? Haha.

^OEM-style rubber bushings need to be torqued at ride height because the bushing flexes rather than rotates. With polyurethane bushings, it doesn't matter: the inner metal bushing insert rotates in the polyurethane on a film of grease.

Okay, thanks. I don't remember seeing anything about that when installing but that could have been just me not reading everything. Haha
