OK, I have to ask you guys.... Why does it seem like everyone hates Pro Comp lifts? I get that folks think they are really stiff and all, but, other than that, what are the issues? I have a Pro Comp 3" coil over lift with AAL's and UCA's. 265/75/17 General AT2's. I think the 1st 1/2" of travel is definitely more jiggly, on the road, but when you get past that, it seems pretty plush to me. While I haven't done much rock crawling type stuff yet due to needing armor, I have done a lot of general off roading. On slower full travel stuff, it will pick a wheel up sometimes, and on faster whoop di doo's it is super plush and the wheels stay planted. On the fast stuff, I beat the living crap out of my truck, and have had no breakage yet. So, what's the deal with the bad pro comp posts? ( having said that, if I could afford, I would like OME and fox or icon, but I would also like to keep my wife..). So what's the skinny, guys? And ladies?

Thanks so much! I did that search before, and others, but only really came up with " pro comps suck", and no specifics. Nothing about breakage and stuff like that. Lots of complaints about ride, but with the extra weight in my rig, and the speeds I drive,( tire smashing fast) so far mine has been pretty plush. We'll see when I do some slower full travel runs. For now, I think I'll invest in some armor, then if something breaks, I'll look at other lifts. I will post if I run into any quality issues. None yet with about 3k on road and about 600 off road.

Ok, I found the answer! After some off road use, they are simply too soft. Changing to King when I have the money.

I had a Pro Comp lift on my truck for 50,000 miles. After 50,000 miles of almost no off road use the lift was shot. The rear add-a-leaf was significantly rustier than the rest of the leaf pack. The rear shocks were leaking fluid and one of the bushings had rounded out causing a half inch of play. The front coils finish had flaked off and were extremely rusty.

On top of all that, the ride compared to my current ICON's was subpar. Over wash boarded roads the truck was very unstable, and the back end wanted to slide out constantly.

The only thing the Pro Comp lift had going for it was price, and if I could go back and do it all over again I wouldn't have purchased it, and instead just waited to save more for a better lift.

It's funny because pro comp 3" springs are made by the same manufacture as other 3" coil springs.

Also, comparing coilovers to struts is like apples to oranges....

I'm going by the fact that you only have 2.5" of lift, and going with icons. Pro comp hasn't had any coilovers since like 3 months ago which is the pro comp black series.

So therefore the pro comp would be struts, am i wrong?

edit, unless you're talking about the MX Series coilovers.. which i can agree, That's why pro comp came out with the black series to make it better

but then again, it only shows those for 6" kits.

I guess yes by technical definition they were struts.

I still maintain however the Pro Comp lift (ES9000 with coils and ES6000 shocks) is not a good buy. Like I said I had 50k miles of 99.9% road use and the lift was trashed. People call the Pro Comp lift a mall crawler lift, and I can't even agree with that as it didn't even last on the road.

I also think its still worthy to note the Pro Comp vs. ICON products. Many people don't want to shell out an extra 1,000 dollars for the more expensive lift. Had I gone with ICON in the first place instead of Pro Comp I'd still have 500 extra dollars in my pocket, and about 10 hours worth of install time back in my life.

I understand completely with the money aspect, but the quality you get with spending 1k more is out of the part of struts.
Pro comp just came out with their black series which is in the same market as icon's. the ES6000's arel ike stock replacement struts and wouldn't reccommend them to anyone that is looking for a nice ride. Pro comp pro runners or bilstein's with pro comp 3" coil springs will be a nice ride for sure. Also the rear shocks are basic standard replacement shocks as well with just longer travel. Again apples to oranges, but if you want something with a lot better ride than a standard kit, you will have to fork out some extra dough.

Typical lifespan of shocks are around 50k miles anywho aswell.

I agree. Newbie mistake on my part, so I will save for a bit and do either Icon or probably King. Live and learn. In the meant time, I intend to continue using the crud out of my truck, and having fun, and learning from my mistakes and not regretting them!:mudding:

Besides, I just ordered sliders and full armor, so I won't cringe as much when I hit stuff!
