    I'm looking to buy some new tires for 17" wheels and am needing a bit of input/advice. Not looking for a real aggressive tire or one bigger than the 265/70/17 - I will be commuting ~100miles/day for work and then doing some light off-roading; forest service roads type of driving.

    I like these:

    Goodyear Wrangler w/ Kevlar - 265/70/17 - $227/tire
    Nitto Terra Grappler G2 - 265/70/17 - $161/tire

    What would make these so different in price? Quality? Tread wear rate? I don't know much about tire selection and need some help on which one? At $161 for the Nitto makes me seem like they are cheaply made tires.

    If you’re doing 100 miles per day, wear rating is going to be important for you. Perhaps weight too. Toyo AT3 are pretty light in their class.

    Are you saying go with the Goodyear Wrangler Kevlars? I didn't specify but I was looking at the A/T Adventure w/ Kevlar

    I'm not driving 100 miles/day juuuust yet. Still work-from-home, but I do see that coming eventually. Got a new job during Covid shutdowns (lucky!) and have not been in the office yet. What should I be looking at in terms of wear rating. I've not needed to take that into consideration before.

    Sorry, I was guessing at reasons for the cost differential. Should have been more clear.

    The AT Adventure doesn’t get much love on here. Mine worked just fine for a pavement princess. I probably could have squeezed another 5k out of them (to 48k) if I wasn’t itching for something a little more aggressive. They are light, and pretty quiet.

    The discount tire exclusive ultra terrain by GY looks pretty sharp. Sort of a civilized duratrac. I just went with a toyo at3 upsized in SL. Tiny bit more road noise than the Goodyear’s. If you’re not looking for anything aggressive, the GY is ok. Probably expensive compared to comparable tires.

    Don't know anything about the Nittos, but I know the Goodyear tires were pretty tough and we're good AT tires on the highway. They were not what I needed though and I didn't much care for their grip or amount of tread for winter (mine were quite worn, however). But for commuting, I think they were pretty good.

    OOOHHHH... I get what you were saying now - that's why Goodyear tires were pricier. :thumbsup:

    The AT Adventure gets hated on by a lot of people to be honest LOL. The quiteness of the Goodyears I like. I didn't even think about the Toyo, they look good. Nor did I think about the Wildpeaks. I may go with those.

    Falken has a 55k warranty $170
    Goodyear is 60k warranty $227
    Toyo are 50k warranty $218

    Falken are better priced. Goodyear/Toyo are right at the same price point.

    It doesn't snow that much here - GA. When it does, the state shuts down. I don't think I'd have to worry about snow issues LOL. Did you ever do any light off-roading? How did they work for you?

    I did and they worked out pretty good. Can't say I really did anything to test them outside of some pretty decent forest roads with some creek crossings and some water which probably reached near my axles. They got the job done for sure, though. Also discovered a couple of nails in them and never got flats.

    Flakens have gone up. They used to be really affordable. I put on 5 toyo’s today for $1k out the door.

    I'm guessing the nails is where the kevlar comes into play. I don't plan on doing much more than what you said. Forest service roads around the Blue Ridge / Smokey Mountains and doing some longer trips.

    I’ve had toyo open country at3 for like 30k miles and they are great. 285/70s. I had Falken wild peaks on my other truck and hated them.. way too much radial pull. I’ll prob never buy a different brand than toyo now for my taco.

    That isn't terrible. I need to look at them a little bit more/do more research. I've had good success with Toyo (38") on a f250 with a 8" lift. They lasted a very long time. I think for me it will come down to tread wear, and that has me leaning to the Goodyear a/t and toyo at3.I think the price goes up with the longevity of the tire too.

    Underworld Flex trifold, tinted, TRDPRO grill, TRDPRO shift knob, etc,etc
    It's hard to go wrong with the Goodyear Wrangler w/ Kevlar, it is a good tough all around tire. But if that 100k miles a day are mostly hwy and the fire roads are not sharp rock filled, I would opt for a more comfortable, quiet and rugged tire like the Cooper AT3 4S that I have. Really can't say enough good things about them.

    Pretty quiet, I can’t hear them with my windows up. I still have about 60% tread left on them too after 30k. I was going to get the MTs originally but I opted for the ATs because of all the highway driving I use to do and I’ve had no complaints and they handle well
    Offroad. I am going to be swapping them for MTs tho soon just because I moved from FL to VA and do a lot of mountain trails now.

    Possibly. But I believe the kevlar is only in the sidewalls and kevlar is great at stopping bullets (when layered thick enough), but not necessarily great at preventing punctures.

    Same as everybody else...
    I have Wild Peaks with about 30k on em. I use my truck mostly on farm roads to hunt or fish, no serious off road stuff or tons of snow. I will say they are a good tires, excellent grip in the muck.When time comes to replace ill probably stick to WPs

    I'd say 90% of those miles are highway/city, other 10% is driving through town. Commuting from town to Atlanta. Fire roads are hit/miss here. For the most part, they are fairly clean. I do intend on driving the GA Traverse though at some point.
