I found a camper shell for my long bed Tacoma for $500. It is an ATC brand, solid front window, sliding non flip up side windows, and solid flip up rear window. I've had a hard time pricing these new online. The catch is I would have to get it painted to match and if I'm going to go through that hassle I want to make sure I still come out well ahead.

    Thanks!

That sounds cheap as hell, even with needing to get it painted. Unless painting a cap is more expensive than I think...

Turns out ATC manufactures them about an hour and a half from me. Can't figure out what they go for new, all the "buy" links take me to a dealer.

I am going to call around some places tomorrow and see what paint would cost...I would hope less than 500 bucks but then I would have a grand in it potentially.

You're probably looking at around $1200 new... A custom point match won't be cheap, probably another $500. Unless you can rattle-can it, it's going to be close to new. Worth contacting an ATC dealer to check.

When I stumbled into my matched-paint snugtop, I was contemplating buying new and ATC was the lowest priced ones that I found. It has been 3 years but if I recall they wanted approx. $1200 new for an ATC at a dealer I called.

I've been very happy with my ATC cap on my long-bed (AC). I bought it used for $450, did a switch-over in a parking lot of a Holiday Inn.

I was lucky to find one (or maybe just more patient than most people would have been) to find this one the color of my truck.

I've never seen another one in this area (PA). The CL seller I bought from had been transferred from Colorado and drove it here. It's a basic cap, not a luxury cap by any means, but I wanted something to keep my stuff dry. Scout is happy too:

@Jere Did you have to put any seal between the cap and the bed rails when first installing the cap? Or is there a seal already built into the cap?

The cap did not have a seal incorporated into it. I don't know if one came with it new. I stopped at a new Cap dealer and bought the wiring harness for the top center light (about $5), and a roll of seal for between the cap and bed rail. But, since the cap was already installed, I never bothered to put the seal on (which would have involved raising the cap a couple inches to get it in there). I've been driving this way for a couple years with no leaks or rattles. If I had the seal before I set the cap on I would definitely have used it. Now, I'm not sure what it would have improved about my fit.

Pretty amazing the ATC,since Snug Top's are twice as much money and they can't even keep their tops from leaking everywhere.
