Are there any other Toyota models for sale that offer both the iforce and hybrid iforce max, to get a rough idea of what the price premium will be for the iforce max?

The Grand Highlander has the same engine and I believe the 2024 regular Highlander as well. Different power numbers, since the engine is Turbo Charged and electrified they can tune the engine easily for different power outputs.

    https://www.toyota.com/grandhighlander/

Also the Lexus RX350, RX 500h F Sport, TX350, and TX 500h F Sport have the same engine as the Tacoma.

    OK thanks.
Using the Toyota build/price tool for the grand highlander limited, nearly $5k more for the hybrid. I was hoping it'd be closer to $2k ;o).
These two have a different transmission though, so I'm not sure how much that factors in. The difference might even be more with the same transmission (the hybrid highlander uses a 6 speed, which I presume is an older and less expensive transmission, but I could be wrong on that).

I do value the rear underseat storage in the non-hybrid. Plus the seat backs fold flat, whereas in the hybrid (at least in a video I saw) the seat backs don't quite fold flat.

Depending how over built the 2.4T is it might be beneficial to just slightly tune the 2.4T for 10% more HP and Torque and have a 'simple' engine. Plus your payload will go up with the non hybrid and your truck can be more of a truck.

The price bump will be significant I would assume.

On a gas Tundra crewmax 4wd starting price is $47k (lowest trim SR)

Lowest you can buy a Hybrid Tundra crewmax 4wd is limited trim… Starts at $63k

Also note that they achieve the same MPG, but the hybrid does generate more power, zero turbo lag, better towing, etc.

Fixed it for you so it is a more realistic comparison. No sense in comparing a trim when the hybrid is not even an option. Using totals that are closer to price without rounding too much and there is a $3.7k difference. The question to be answered is that $3.7k increase worth the +48HP, +104tq, and small bump in city driving?

If I am reading the bottom of this link correctly the TrailHunter and Pro only come with the Hybrid. Limited, Off Road and Sport have the Hybrid as an option. PreRunner, SR5 and SR come with only the 2.4L Turbo. If you want the I-FORCE or I-FORCE MAX might be determined by what trim you want.

When you put it like that I'm not sure it's worth it, I'm guessing a tune for under 1k would get you close to that and have the manual option.

The hybrid Tacoma looses 500 lbs of towing capacity over the non.

lol! True true! I tow with mine though, albeit at about half of capacity.

Will the battery die on long ascending pulls, then do you loose that extra torque?

In theory yes....if battery is depleted or goes poof then you would loose the power source to the electric motor.....however I it should never go dead since it is constantly being recharged. It going poof is another subject all together and I doubt you will stay in the truck long enough to find out. The only possible test I could think of is a Pikes Peak run...which then made me think if the TFL Ike gauntlet. Did they ever do it with the tow test with the Tundra?

Pikes Peak would be an excellent test!

While not as steep, there are some long pulls here I do that take about 2 hours (92 miles according to google) In the electric trucks battery dies fairly quick, wonder if it is the same with the hybrids. Have a friend that has a hybrid mini-van said it is horrible on the interstate because the battery gets so low it doesn’t really help. Then just becomes dead weight. My only experience with hybrids is driving my aunts Prius, great mileage but a turd powerwise.

Not sure if TFL did a towing test with the Hybrid Tundra. I don’t like those guys, so don’t pay too much attention to them unless I am really curious. edit: and now I am curious, guess I’ll have to look at those mostly software engineers turned truck “experts”. lol!

The Tacoma hybrid doesn't improve fuel economy. It's there for fun. Expect to pay a hefty premium like the jump from Wrangler V6 to Wrangler 392 (which has a similar torque figure as Tacoma hybrid, 470 lb-ft vs. 465 lb-ft).

I hope it's not that much of a premium. You can get a v6 wrangler for 30k and the 392 is over 80k. I think even a base rubicon is 50k so still crazy up charge. I always liked Jeeps and had a few. Always wanted a v8 wrangler but way to much over the base of a vehicle just to get the 392.

The battery will be able to be recharged any time you’re not at full throttle climbing. So exceptionally few situations will see a completely depleted battery

It’ll be pretty transparent to the end user. Will just feel like a more powerful ICE engine
