    Hey Guys

    UPDATE:
Full tank with premium gives me 319 miles before empty,
Full tank with regular gives me 304 miles before empty.
    Price difference is $.80 cents x 20 gallons =$16.00.
To me, truck runs the same with both gas.

What kind of Gasoline you all use in your Tacoma?
I`ve been filling my Taco with premium Gas since the day i got it.
My question is: Does it really make a difference use premium gas over regular?
The truck came filled with regular gas and i did not notice any improvement in MPG.
    What`s your thoughts?
    Thanks .

Search will find many opinions on the topic.

But here's a thought. Even if the MPG improves, is it enough to break even on the cost delta, much less create any savings.

Another bizarre thought. What does your owners manual disclose on the topic?

I use quality gas over octane . Truck requires 87 all you need .premium is a waste unless you are running a turbo or supercharger . So save your self the cash and use it for mods .

Up here in higher altitudes there isn’t as much oxygen and so it resist pre-detonation already. (Octane does that). Our regular is 85 octane and it’s all I’ve run for 188,000 miles. Never had any pinging or anything else. You’ll get 1 mpg more with premium but overall you are losing money. We should care about $$$/gal and premium isn’t good at that.

I put premium in my truck one time.

I swiped my card and then I was pulling the nozzle out of the pump to put it into the truck. The hose hit the premium button and it wouldn’t let me cancel the transaction. I was extremely unhappy.

Waste of money, your truck’s engine does not require that octane.

Premium if I tow, and regular if I don't. Read the manual

I just watched a show with the guys that did the "Road Kill" show. It's called "Engine Masters" or something like that. They did a thorough test on 85, 87, 91 and race gas and found basically they all pretty much did the same as far as horsepower and torque.

It's basically a waste of money. The 2GR-FKS is able to increase timing with premium gas but I would be willing to bet you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test.

The whole knock learning thing starts immediately after filling up and can change the timing within seconds so don't think you need to drive 500miles to gain/loose anything from a change in fuel.

I did a bunch of tuning and testing with about 2000 miles of driving and got measurable change in fuel economy between 85 octane (yes 85) and 91.

I regularly run ethanol free 90 octane.
I get about 1.5-2 mpg better mileage than when I have switched to 87

Always ran E87, the trucks a beast on it. I tried a few tanks of 92, but after 400 miles my truck ran notably lazier. It had a bunch of gear hunting with a drop in fuel economy. Tried 89 also some months earlier which made no difference from the 87. All our gasoline grades are blended with ethanol.
