My 2006 front bumper cover is cracked and the clear coat is coming off in a few places... looking at the aforementioned pre painted covers and wondering if anyone has thoughts, experience... or both!

I've bought various pre-painted parts (fenders, spoilers, grills etc) for various vehicles from various dealerships on eBay and have had good results. Probably better to do this than try and paint a unpainted one yourself if you're not confident.

Just be careful with bumper covers because I've seen some sellers listings believe it or not, that claim they fold the bumpers up for smaller shipping boxes to save cost. I wouldn't trust the paint to survive that without defects.

I ordered a painted front bumper fr my Odyssey van and it came folded in the box. The use a flex agent added in the paint for plastic parts so there is no damage to the paint. I unfolded mine and heated the folded ares with blow drier since it was winter and it straightened right out. Fit and looked perfect. Got mine on Ebay

Same here it came folded left it in the sun for an hour and it was good to go. I think I ordered from paint a part . There’s a bunch of them out there if I remember correctly they were based out of texas. I ordered a new bumper because 1 it had license plates holes in it and it drove me nuts and the 2nd reason was it had ben road peppered its entire life and was showing its age09E333F7-5A04-444E-94EF-84CD64F79CD1.jpg

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but wanted to add my experience with a pre-painted bumper. Ordered a new one from paint-a-part and shipped within a week. Did arrive folded in a box, but after sitting on the driveway in the sun for about 20 minutes it had returned back to it's original shape. There were two small areas where the fold did cause the paint to buckle, but they are both hidden below the headlights. Color seems like a good match. All in all rather pleased and saved about half compared to buying the OEM cover from the dealership and having a body shop paint locally. Time will tell how well the paint holds up though.

Crazy to me that it actually returns to it's regular shape after folding, but that's awesome that it does! What was the cost? I'm always blown away at how much local resellers want for a used, often messed up bumper. I'm used to bumper covers/skins being pretty cheap.

That's great (assuming the quality is decent). I see people trying to sell damaged bumpers for $150-250 which seems crazy.

the PNW local buy sell thread on here has at least a few used ones per year. often in that range, including the aluminum crash bar and such. Lots of people go to aftermarket bumpers and take off perfectly good ones. I think I sold mine for 200 with the crash bar, clips, bolts and the working fog lights. Guy that bought it actually only needed the cover, and turned around and sold the aluminum crash bar for half or more of what he paid me. Might be worth watching out for and buying one off somebody just to have around in case of damage.

This other vendor I was looking at for bumpers had a part request where I assume they will order the unpainted part and then paint for you: https://www.paintedoemparts.com/store/c202/Tacoma.html

This group sells grills for a few model years, and were the only vendor I found that shipped the bumper unfolded (shipped via freight instead of FedEx) but was over twice the price: https://www.revemoto.com/collections/toyota-painted-grilles

Quality seems good enough to me. Was honestly surprised the color matches as well as it does for a 13 year old truck.

Chad thanks for the info. This is the route I will take; the price is around $800 to get a stock one and have it painted. Ugghh.

Wow they're really bending you over at that price considering you can get an OEM bumper for around ~$200 and figure paint will run you ballpark ~$300-400 (this assumes you're doing the bumper R&I yourself).

That's the cheapest by far that I've seen/heard to date. Still not overly wild about them being aftermarket body parts, plus them being shipped in the folded condition with the paint & all. Hopefully those buckled paint spots and the rest don't give you any grief over time. However that being said, for older vehicles and depending on one's expectations/needs, you gotta weigh the pros & cons of spending the extra money to go the full OEM / local auto body paint route, etc. and whether or not it's really worth it.

I remember looking at some of the other places offering pre-painted auto body parts and to me pricewise they were not competitive whatsoever compared to me just purchasing the OEM part myself and having it painted locally.

The two buckled spots were literally a half inch long. Not bad at all.
The hardest part of the whole thing was getting everything buttoned back up properly. I think I ended up with several screws left over and didn't know where they went. It also didn't help that one of the support brackets had been bent from bumping a pole. I got new plastic OEM clips from Amazon (same ones that go along the top of the grille) that were great replacements for the ones that broke.
