Does the pre-collision system detect deer and other large animals on the road or pedestrians and vehicles only?

I'll tell you this much, I was home bound on a 2 lane highway when a typical house cat walked onto the road about 50 yards in front of me. I was doing about 50 mph and my warning sounded but hadn't yet gotten to the self braking point. The cat saw me coming and darted back in the woods. Warning stopped as soon as the cat touched the apron of the road. Leads me to believe it works on animals.

Hahahahaha that’s hilarious. The system is supposed to detect vehicles and basically anything within the sensors range which would most likely detect a dear. But I have to say the system is dangerous. I was driving and the system kicked on due to the fact of the car in front of me which I was aware of but my radio turned off and my sensor started beeping which took away my focus on the car in front of me and almost caused the collision lol.

It's not supposed to work on biological object so I wouldnt count on it, but it might.

Also, read the manual, lm pretty sure that's where I read the info.

What was I thinking...it wasn't the pre-collision radar that saw the cat...it had to be the pedestrian detection radar. I forgot there are 2 types...my correction.

I don't think our trucks have that, I was just saying it may pick up on a bio object, it may not, I wouldn't depend on it because that isn't what our system was designed to do.

If you have Toyota Safety Sense then you do have the dual radar systems...see below.

Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS)¹ is designed to help protect drivers, passengers, people in other vehicles on the road, and pedestrians from harm. TSS represents a major milestone in Toyota's long history of creating advancements and innovations in safety that help prevent crashes and protect people. Frontal Collisions.

That's describing the safety sense in the Rav4 and other vehicles, the Tacoma uses an older version as far as I know.

I know my truck has pedestrian detection...see below...I guess the system is called TSS-P.

For 2018, the Tacoma receives a suite of safety technologies known as Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P). Included within TSS-P are systems such as pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with sway warning, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control.
