As the topic is stated, my 2020 tacoma is having a PCS malfunction just recently. I've had the truck lifted about 2 years already with the aftermarket pro grille and I've had no problems at all. I did recently get into an accident but on the drivers side wheel area. Damage was the suspensions, Brake lines, etc. No damage to the front. When the truck was ready, the guy told me the PCS is on. Took it to toyota and said it cant be calibrated due to its lift. Must need to go back to stock height to be re-calibrated. Any one had a problem where its just the PCS malfunction? any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks!

    they are covering their asses

cant blame them..............they are ONLY Good for STANDARD Equiptment

should have been repaired at prev accident

IF there were to be another accident

NO One on earth could swear it woulda......coulda work this time

    or NOT at all !!

any air bag.......collison avoidance dealers dont like IFs & maybe

    the penaltys are severe

Your lift and grille should not be an issue in this situation. Errors like this will only occur if the sensor is broken, unplugged, or the wire harness has been damaged. The dealer might be able to clear it if it’s an electronic problem

I’ve checked the wires, made sure it was plugged. Nothing. Toyota said everything was checked and good. Nothing damaged. Just can’t calibrate because it’s lifted. Which is bogus. It’s only lifted like 2 and a quarter and their trucks, they do 2 inch lifts.

Idk, It’s dumb. I’m pretty sure they know who buys a truck, 80% of people will end up lifting the truck. They should have the calibration where they can do it. It’s stupid. Maybe it’s something they didn’t want to do because it’s more work.

thing is dealers dont have to diagnose or work on accesories.... modifications that are Not OEM

when they provide U with a vaid work order / receipt

they are standing behind it meets standard cerified equiptment

    no different with smog equipt

there are NO EPA police blue lighting folks

they simply nab U at the yearly smog shed

some changes arent goin to pass muster....................the repairs will be expensive

some will have to pay fines

some may ‘ Corrupt ‘ the ongoing ‘ Tune ‘................making getting back to standard impossible

essentially a direct result of Interstate REGS the cameras + accident avoidance was mass introduced on SEMIs ( years ago )

its entirely different size wise calibrating units windshield high on a peterbiltthat could overshoot a compact car

that semi has to pickup that compact ( vice versa )

    cant be the SAME calibration

80% do not lift their tacomas. Despite what many people think, not every tacoma owner is on this forum. Lots of people buy tacomas for work, for towing their small campers, or just needed a truck to haul things.

I would say maybe 10-15% at the most.

Its the worst with the TSS on these trucks. People modify the truck then expect the dealer to make it work again. Toyota engineered these sensors for a certain height, when people exceed that height, then the sensor can malfunction causing a crash.

Toyota is smart not to work on a modded truck when it comes to these sensors. Dont want a repeat of the floormat issue.

the insurane companaies follow a similar directive

even tho superfifially fenders gril other panels ‘’ l oo k ‘ as good as new

airs bags & emblems can be replaced..........................NO WAY TO DETERMINE THEY WILL WORK

    the NEXT TIME !!!

that tech that graduated from briggs/stratton lawn mowers

honda street mopeds is woefully inadequate to reinstall

be aware of yards in the metro area that ship wrecked vehicles easy to repair metal

yet to countries that DONT REQUIRE the epa or safety items

a full set of bags can easily $$$$$ as much as a vehicle is worth

its a growing going thing as the insurance companys get paid without the liability

Mine went out at 30K miles on my 2018. Kept saying PCS system not available. After a couple trips to the dealer because they couldnt reproduce it, they finally replaced the sensor behind the grille.

I'm in the 'Look at me, my car/truck/motorcycle/etc' is special capital of California and I doubt that 80% of the trucks in my area are lifted. Maybe 15-20% at most.

Full-disclosure, my Taco is stock height (and will be staying that way) however I do also have a Silverado with a 4" lift on it. That will likely be the only lifted truck I ever own.

As far as your TSS goes, I'd put it back on the Body Shop which did the work to make it right, especially if you wern't getting the error when you initially brought the truck to them for repair. Take it back to them, make them figure it out.

If you're handy, try relocating the sensor and use zipties and tape, nothing metallic in front of the sensor. A slight shift in angle and the sensor goes nuts. I recently installed a bumper and the bar was obstructing the TSS. I moved it and it took a few test drives to get it angled correctly. I noticed the the light would go on when someone passes me on the driver side, so I hand to point it more towards the passenger. The light still comes on but it goes off soon after, it's probably because of my home made mounting:rofl:
