Has anyone installed this drop in replacement in your gen 2 truck? Seems to be a reasonable upgrade without having to piece together a system. Claims to be plug and play.

Idk about this kit but I did buy a set of powerbass 5.25 components for my old powerstroke and they sounded way better than the 30-40$ I paid for them

Are they better than the JBL factory speakers?

I had the factory jbl premium system in my wife's highlander platinum and I personally thought it sucked. Now my parents have a platinum sequoia and it has the jbl synthesis system in it and it sounds great.

It says they are 80 watts RMS. The factory head unit does not supply that much power. I'm sure they sound better than the factory paper speakers but I really doubt they are going to blow you away with the difference.

I doubt anything ran off the factory head unit is going to blow you away, but it would most likely be an upgrade over cheap factory paper cone junk.

The JBL factory speakers aren't cheap paper cones are they? Except for maybe the subwoofer.

I believe it's powered by 90 watts, but I could be wrong.

Ah I hand't taken into account a factory amplifier. There may be some packages that did come with a factory amp. Not sure on that though. Mine did not. I installed an amp for my component speakers.

I couldn't find good pictures other than this eBay auction, but yea pretty sure there all paper, maybe the high end systems in avalon and sequoia are not but pretty sure Tacoma is.

So imagine how much better real tweeters and better cones, surrounds and non puny magnets would sound. I mean it's not going to be like going from a clock radio to a full bose surround sound system but u will definitely get clearer highs and most likely more full and richer bass as long as the speakers arent completely over kill for the factory radio. And yes an amplifier with new speakers would make huge difference but it all depends on how much u want to spend and what u want to get out of your system.

I installed that powerbass speaker in my third gen.
It sounded good compare to stock speakers. Then I installed a tacotune amp ($130). It made a dramatic improvement. Now I just need to tune the amp.

I should have gone 6.5" speaker in front. Too much bass with 6x9.

I didn't know Crutchfield carried powerbass, I found them on Amazon, I thought they were just a cheap brand, but the ones I had sounded good for what they were.

So how much bass we talking about? Like u added an 8" sub? Or just bass drowning out all the midrange?
