My 2003 Tacoma sits outside most of the time and on the hot days I like to open the windows for ventilation. In the evening I will put up the windows and lock the truck.

This window adjustment takes turning the ignition key and often I don't have the keys in my pocket. Is there some way to modify the wiring to allow the window up & down at any time without first turning the key? It could be a pushbutton hidden under the dash or hot all the time. Anybody done this?

This would be a great mod. Door locks work without the key. Why couldn't windows? I'm in for the fix, or at least the discussion.

Does anyone know if there is some jumper wiring that will accomplish this?

    should be pretty simple .

Run a fused wire to keep the window relay coil energized

you would need the circuit diagram for your truck to figure out the complete details

Well I'm a dummy when it comes to circuit diagrams. I'm again throwing this out there to see if someone has a simple answer.

    Thank you!

    I'd be all for this!

.... but I have manual everything doors lol

Do you have a cheapo multimeter? If you took the door panel off and snapped some pictures, I bet I could walk you through where to probe and then what to use (or buy) to make the fused jumper.

Here's a photo of the door switches and the wiring underneath, and the fuse box. The fuse box doesn't mention the power windows or locks so I don't know which fuse supports those.

I wonder if I tied into the ignition wire with a momentary push-button switch under the dash that would allow the window adjustments like the extra time I get after turning off the ignition. But that stops when the door is opened, so maybe that's out.

Anyway, here's what I have to work with. It would be nice to have some sort of jumper in the fuse box but I don't know if that's an option. So what if I put a jumper between the door lock hot wire and the window hot wire? Might that overload the door lock circuit? I do have a multimeter.

My Gen 4 T4R rear window will roll up or down with the ignition key In the rear hatch lock, I guess there is a starting idea maybe using that type of switch in the door of a Taco.

Well I thought since the powered door lock works without the key in the ignition I could wire in a jumper with a push button momentary switch to meet my objective. With my multimeter I learned the door lock switch has 3.5v incoming, not the full 12v. Rats! Foiled again!

Maybe one day I'll get industrious enough to run a fused link from the fuse box to a momentary switch mounted on the window/lock switch plate. Then I can press the button to power the window up/down functions without a key in the ignition. Just thinking outloud.......

Here is how the power works in 2003 (red line):

    upload_2020-11-16_14-33-14.jpg

Body ECU figures out (based on whatever inputs it has) to turn on the PWR RELAY, which provides 30A fused power to power window system. Unfortunately it look like the PWR RELAY is integrated into JB/1 so I am not sure how easy it is to access it. If it is possible it can be replaced with short or manual switch providing non stop fused power to windows.

If it is not accessible then you may add a 30A fuse between 2(1K) and 1(1C) (green line) just tapping into wires on JB1. Optionally you may add inline switch to disable the "constant power" feature.

I know it is quite intimidating to play around JB/1 as there are many plugs and wires in it, but it is very doable.

Sorry, I do not have 2003 Tacoma on hand to show . All I have is diagrams which in 95% are accurate. Now looking back at diagrams actually access to Power relay may be doable. It is on the back side next to the turn signal flasher. But I will never know until someone with 2003 can dig JB/1 out and take a picture of it :notsure:.

Here is the location of that relay on JB/1:

    upload_2020-11-16_15-8-48.jpg

And here is the location of JB/1 in the vehicle:

    upload_2020-11-16_15-9-48.jpg

I never said it is easy, but quite doable.

As for the wires to tap into with an external fuse (and switch) - 2(1K) and 1(1C) (green line on my diagram) - it is here:

    upload_2020-11-16_15-14-26.jpg

I think 2(1K) is a big ass power wire so tapping into it needs to be done very gently and well insulated - it is protected by 50A fuse so a lit of energy can go out in case of short. So the first option (tapping into Power Relay) may be easier and safer.

By the way, to show it is doable, I did dig into my JB/1 when I was connecting OSRAM DRL to my truck. It is intimidating but only at the first look :)

Would anyone on this thread be able to help with this issue? My driver's side window gets stuck down ONLY when "AUTO DOWN" is pressed/activated. I replaced the window motor and a few dash/heater bulbs, and have since had this issue. All windows, switches work perfectly EXCEPT when "AUTO DOWN" as activated. AUTO UP is even fine. I've tried a replacement switch, but the same issue occurs. I would be more than fine bypassing the AUTO feed if that did not create a ground issue. Thanks.
