I cleaned the MAF by spraying carb cleaner on it and then drove it to the car wash, it seemed to be running fine on the way there and even the way back. Next day I go to start it up and it seems like its stuck in the cold idle. It'll start then try to go down to 700-800rpm but then something kicks on and it goes up to 1300 and stays there. No CEL. If I unplug the MAF it will go down to ~700.

    Help?

Fix action: turns out the TPS was full of water from the wash, got a new one and now its all fixed, dont power wash your engine bay kids!

Ouch! Should have used CRC MAF Cleaner. Did you disconnect battery before cleaning MAF? Might take a while before computer settles everything out...

Check to see if you got water in the plugs - happened to me when I powerwashed my engine - it'll dry out or you can take out the boots and dry it all off. I was getting surging and rough idle.

I can't reference it, but it seems I recently read that power washing the engine compartment was not recommended.

For the 3.4 it can get spark plugs wet, but for most engines it's all good as long as the major electrical connectors are covered - in my experience anyway.

I should have mentioned that it was the 3rd gen 3.5L that I was referring to. My engine bay seems like it was sprayed with some sticky gunk from the factory, so I was going to power wash it until I read that

When it's high idling take something you can use to tap on the idle control valve under the throttle body. If the idle goes down. Pull throttle body and clean the idle control valve.

I just drove the truck from Las Vegas to Los Angeles (about 270 miles) and its still idling high so if it was residual water it should have evaporated. On the trip I decided to go through all the settings on my scan gauge and my TPS was showing 80 and above the entire time (I read somewhere its supposed to rest at 10) Ill check it out in the morning and report back.

Edit: also this is for a first gen, 2.7

Yeah, you should always cover a good portion of the engine.

To this day, my dad never does that and has caused me so much freaking grief when he pressure washes my mom's camry engine bay.

I power wash my engine every month. Never had a problem.
Although, I don't indiscriminately spray the electrical bits...

@misteroldschool, is your TPS, a 3 wire or 4 wire? I'm looking for a 4 wire, w/o having to buy the whole throttle body. Thanks in advance.
