I don't understand why people run drilled and slotted rotors on brakes that aren't a big brake kit that is being ran hard at the track. I guess for the look? The big difference maker on daily used brakes is the pad itself. They can definitely improve braking performance without doing a major upgrade as say a big brake kit. Rotors not so much.

Drilled rotors are not typically recommended on trucks. Dirt/mud/debri can get in holes, they reduce overall mass and they can lead to cracking. Slotted may help if you tow or drive aggressively in the mountains. Otherwise focus on size and weight of the rotor. Mass helps with heat dissipation.

I'm running the Z36 kit on my 2nd gen. No problems and they seem to work great. I tow a boat and a utility trailer.

Not sure what kit that is, but I've had the Stoptech big brake kit along with rears since I got the truck. They perform excellent both on and off road. Exact info elude me a bit as it's been 4 years, but definitely not dissapointed.

Not much is going to be better than stock. The issue is the calipers and a few members here put on aftermarket ones with little to no improvement, one guy was even worse with bad brake fade he couldn't resolve.

Yep. My experience with slotted rotors comes from running EBCs with Yellows on my Gen 1 Tundra. I was trying to achieve better braking performance (which I did), but at 8k miles on the slotted rotors, the pads/rotors were done. Went back to OE and probably won’t ever run the cheese graters on a truck again.

I had these exact Powerstop Z36 pads and rotors on my 2001 Tacoma. They worked great! I frequently experienced brake fade and vibration from the stock pads and rotors while going downhill. Although, I'm sure it was mainly due to the extra weight of my Northstar Cab Over Camper. These Z36's Truck and Tow brakes held up the best. They lasted the longest, and even at the end of life, they didn't fade or vibrate.
