Recently I found what I initially thought was an oil leak from my oil filter housing. I replaced the filter (upgraded to the metal housing while I was at it) but last night I discovered my leak was still there. However, this time the filter housing was dry so perhaps I had two leaks?

I found a bit of information on the 2nd gens having common leaks on the power steering lines in that same area but can't seem to find much on the 3rd gens apart from the rack and pinion or the pump itself. I wiped down the area and will continue to monitor it to try and narrow it down but wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this particular issue.

The leak area appears to be right near the fittings between the rubber and the hard metal lines of the power steering lines right behind the oil filter housing.

Also, near as I can tell the part number is 44410-04280 and my research shows it replaces 44410-04270. Does anyone know what the actual difference is between these or what they would have updated?

Thanks in advance. For reference I have just over 150k on the odometer.

Possible leak location after wiping the area down. No, the leak isn't as bad as the frame rail appears. Most of that is years worth of Woolwax and subsequent dirt buildup.

Also, does anyone know what this fitting is? It is in a tight area right behind those lines and I'm not sure if it is part of the issue or not given the corrosion on it.

I had mine leak a couple of years ago, it was under the “drive train” warranty. I did however have to argue with the dealer and make them call Toyota while I stood there. If that didn’t wow I was going to have a local garage change them out

    I'm surprised they covered it.
I'm guessing that was more a gesture of good will, than actual warranty.

Dealer refused. But Toyota had them fix it, lucky I guess

It doesn't look like too difficult of a job as long as you can get into the right spaces. Just mainly wondering about experiences of others. Was yours leaking in the same area?
