The power steering fluid in my Tacoma is a little low so I went to Advanced Auto Parts and one of the guys recommended this (pictured below). Is it safe to add it to the original fluid? Thanks in advance for any feedbacks.

I just flushed the power steering fluid in my truck the other day. After doing some research, I found that ATF Dexron II or III is what should be used. Just my input, maybe someone else can help as well.

Not sure if it is a good idea to add full synthetic into what is already in there.
I think the manual calls for dexron 2 ATF.
I used dexron 2 when I replaced the all of the fluid last year.
Don't trust what the parts store guy tells you.

Like others have said, it’s a good idea to check your manual to see what exactly says. Some guy at a parts store probably isn’t going to know exactly what your truck is supposed to have.

The manual does a good job of listing specifics of what fluids should be used. I was just looking at mine the other day since I’m planning on change diff fluid soon.

But honestly, alot of lube places will accidentally put regular p/s fluid and I have yet to see any catastrophic failures

Thanks guys. I’m going to return it and get Dexron From the local dealership on Monday and a turkey baster to do the job. She has about 62k miles so the turkey baster route may be safe for now.

Where you buy Dexron-III from is your business, but it's available at many places cheaper than a dealer will sell it for. Anyone's Dex will work just as good as another's, especially for a P/S unit.

    Yes.

But a qt of ATF that is Dexron II compatible is likely half the price.

Dexron, not Dexcool. Dexron has been around since the 60's and has various versions of automatic transmission fluid. I believe GM is past Dexron-VI at this point. However Toyota still uses Dexron III for power steering fluid, so a good quality synthetic Dexron III will be a great addition to any power steering system, especially after complete flush.

ATF, I used the same stuff I got to drain/refill my auto-transmission in the power steering reservoir.
