Picked up this power mirror system off a 2002 4Runner outta the junkyard this past Friday. I’m just wondering what the two extra wires are for that are coming out the factory connectors. I took the whole system out of the same car so I’m not miss matching things. I’m thinking heated mirrors maybe?

    63383542-27CC-4DDB-B416-29CD0F394AC2.jpg
It’s the darker green and the white/Black towards the left.

The two pinks and the yellow wire are used for the power mirror function.

Don’t my mind electrical tape connecting I’m just testing them. Will be making a nice harness with marine heat shrink connectors when Amazon delivers me some wire.

Heated mirrors. Be careful though, I was switching wires around(like an idiot) while wiring up the switch and melted the entire wire. On the 4Runner, it's hooked up to the Defrost option on the A/C.

Oh, and the yellow and black wire is shared between both mirrors. One wire from each side hooks up to the same wire on the switch.

Yea I kinda figured that what those wires are for. They threw me off Me at first. I think I’m just gonna cut them and cap them then. Don’t think I’ll ever need the heated mirrors here in FL...

Wouldn’t happen to know if just the normal power mirrors use the same connector do you ? Just Incase I ever have to replace a mirror.

I don't believe so but I can't say for certain, I just hacked everything up and ran the wire. I picked up a heated and non-heated mirror unknowingly. I never ended up hooking up the heat option but I feel like that's the one that gets fogged up. I'm in SC so I definitely get not needing it.

Heated mirrors. Now that's something I need. Did this come on Limited only or other trim levels? The T4R's I've seen don't have that feature.

Pretty sure it's the 99-02 limited models.

Well I'm a little mad at myself for not getting the mirrors from the '99 Limited I got my Front Differential out of.

I also regret not getting the rear locker in my gear ratio...

Point is, I have many regrets. LOL

Man, I'm sure you think about that locker often. I've got the 3.91 gears :bananadead:.

Whatever you do, don't buy aftermarket mirrors. Nothing but complaints from people.

It was a 2002 runner I’m not really sure besides that. Toyota is so weird with there packages anyway. I guess I’m gonna truly have a 99 “dlx” model now

Oh I made that mistake. Terrible, the TYC ones were very well built and felt like good quality but they just shook too much. I went back to OEM mirrors.

I can’t even find a wiring diagram for mirror heaters. When you look up the remote mirrors it shows three wires running to the mirrors which is what threw me off at first

Easy. Just eliminate the color wires you know that are for the power mirrors and the remaining wires will be for the heating pads.

Easy tip is the heater wire will be a thicker gauge than the motor wires.

Probably a good idea to run a relay and a switch.

I know which ones are the heater wires. I guess I could just wire it to a relay and switch like you guys are saying. I wish I had another blank in my dash for a switch. I like the idea of having it wired to the defroster somehow. They would be kinda nice on the rare cold morning when it’s like 40f on the way into work. It is foggy here sometimes also I wonder what the heat would do for that on my mirrors.

You could do it, I think it's just a bit more complicated. You could tap into the A/C wire that gets current whenever you turn the defrost on. Where this wire is or what it looks like, I have no idea. And it would only work if there was a separate wire from the A/C button and a separate one for the defrost switch.

I’m sure one day down the road when I run out of projects and things to tinker on I will end up with heated mirrors haha

I have a 1997 4runner limited 4x4 with Dif Lock that blew the head gasket. I plan to remove the electric mirrors as well as some other things before I part it out. It does not have the heat options. As previously mentioned, 99-02 is probably right. By the way, what do you think the Dif Lock is worth?

The whole axle is worth more to 4Runner owners than Tacoma owners since you can't interchange them since the runner axle is on coils and the Tacoma axle is on leaf springs. You can sell the whole thing wiring and all for upwards of $1,000. The 3rd member itself is worth about $500
