Hey My Tacoma Brothers and Sisters,

My buddy Sean and I have another video for you. If you had a door lock actuator failure and you want to replace it, this video will walk you through the steps to do it. For my buddy Alex who's truck I used for this video, the repair unfortunately didn't work because his problem is an electrical wiring issue that I wasn't able to figure out.

I would eventually like to figure out how to just replace the motor for these actuators like you can easily do for a 3rd Gen 4runner.

Here's the video and Enjoy the Show!

I have the strange problem of my keys not turning in the driver side door, but it will in my passenger side. So I'm always unlocking my passenger door that automatically unlocks both.

I am curious to find out if you opened the Chinese actuator assembly to see which style motor they used, the Tacoma style or 4Runner style.

I didn't but maybe I should have. I almost did, but since i messed up the OEM lock actuator fooling around with it, I didn't want to take a chance and screw that one up as well. I just wanted to get the door locks back working the way they were before I started messing with my buddy's rig. Even though the driver door lock doesn't lock or unlock electrically, it will send a signal to the other doors to lock and unlock when you operate the door lock with the key. It's a pretty weird issue that's going on with with his driver door lock. There's communication from the driver door lock back to the ECU to communicate with the other door locks but there's no communication the other way to tell the driver door to lock and unlock.

Oh man, you're into the fun stuff when you start chasing electrical issues...

The fact that the front right and rear doors lock/unlock but the front left doesn't helps narrow it down quite a bit since the front left lock is only separated from the front right lock by 2 points (splice point I5 and junction block 3B). Of course the problem could also be on the front left door lock actuator plug but you'd be back tearing apart the door to confirm that anyway.

    Hey Tim,

    Appreciate your detailed video.

I am currently attempting to replace my 2002 Tacoma driver side door actuator. Not necessarily the whole actuator. The motor is (surprisingly) working but the interior plastics gears are worn.

    The actuators are so expensive.
