    Guys,
I’m ready to powder coat my OEM off road rims ... I’ve decided to go with gun metal gray.
    So I’m wondering
    1. About the lug nuts, powder coat folks said they could do those too but that it’ll scratch off Changing tires, so I said I’d look for them online, they said they must lug nuts are all basically painted ‘ they’d all scratch (true?)
    2. the center cap is the next issue... I believe the OEM cap is dark grey, they said they can’t powder coat plastic, so is there a solution that y’all know of there ?
    3. Going back to lug nuts when you buy an aftermarket wheel do they come with matching lug nuts or do you have to buy them extra, what is y’alls thought on gun metal wheels with factory lugs ?
    Appreciate any feed back

I'm thinking about doing the exact same thing. Same color. What about black lug nuts? I've heard good things about McGard.

    http://www.mcgard.com/automotive/lug-nutslug-bolts/splinedrive-lug-nuts/

Side note: I have a '69 Beetle project that I put '85 Porsche Phone Dial wheels on that I had powder coated gun metal grey. The SCARIEST thing was having the tire shop put the tires on after the job was done.

    Good luck!

I had my former 2012 wheels powder coated satin black. The center caps I rattle canned magneti gray to match the truck and em stuck logos to them. Factory lug nuts. I thought they turned out nice.
Traded her for a 2018 PRO.

1.) The lug nuts are gonna scratch eventually no matter if its powder coat or paint. Unless the base material coincidentally matches the color you want, good luck.
2.) I think pretty much anything can be powder coated, as long as it doesn't melt in the cure oven. Good luck finding spray paint to match powder.
3.) It's a diaper question I think it just depends on where/who you buy them from as to if they come with matching lug nuts or not. Look in the description or ask.

My question: For the price and hassle of powder coating factory wheels, why not spend a tad more money and buy new wheels and save the headache and time? Then you can save or sell the factory wheels to offset the cost. More cost upfront, but way less headache and time.

OP, how much were you quoted for the powder coating? I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing, also gunmetal to match my MGM. I figure I would go with black lugs.

I here ya and understand... I’m at $550 remounted & balanced ... I might would get $400 top dollar for rims but I think that’d be s long shot ?? So new rims $900-$1200 + mount & balance etc etc, so let’s conservatively $1300 - $400 best sale price on my wheels (Hassell of selling / shipping them maybe ) ... total new wheel price $900 ? I don’t know sound about right to you

I had my 4Runner TRDOR wheels powdercoated. Same thing: no powdercoating plastic center cap. This is the link they gave me for matching the powder coat and it was perfect: https://shop.cardinalpaint.com/products/cardinal-black?variant=28494558787

Obviously, I'm sure it depends on the powder coat itself, but if you go to a decent shop, I'm assuming they'd know the associated paint code for it.
