I work in a large industrial facility. We put quite a few things together with superstruts. In fact superstuts are used extensively at my work. A superstrut is a metal channel strut beam that can be used in a lot of creative ways. You can get all sorts of attachments for them. They are similar to the slot rails on the Tacoma.

I can dumpster dive at my work and get discard superstruts without much effort. So I am trying to come up with ideas for using superstruts with my Tacoma.

If you have done something with superstruts with your Tacoma can you post some photos? Ideas?

I work in telecommunications and unistrut is the building material of choice... way over used... hate that stuff.

If you have stainless go for it. If it's galvanized keep it way. Any piece of strut I've worked on that has see weather rusts and corodes Pronto.
But to maybe get some wheels spinning this is a dinghy holder slide I built a few years back. Mounted on the swimstep of a larger boat and allowed the tender to be slid forwards and rolled a little to the side to move the CG and give a better ride when underway.

I'm planning a bed rack fab from it. Kayaks or cargo basket, plus outboard mtn. bike mounts. For vacation travel/camping, no hard off roading. Should be fine, hold up when primed and painted, and cheap. For this occasional, basic light duty use, no RTT, this makes a lot more sense than a commercial bedrack, which is stupid $$.

That fine piece of engineering does not fit with your username.

With nothing else in the bed I use Rocky Mounts fork mounts in the front channel I added for two mtn bikes. For kayaks or a cargo basket and bikes, I'll use the same fork mounts on short Unistrut extensions outboard of the main rack, in line with the bed rail of the truck.

Do they really have to call it "Super White II"?
38 miles on it so nothing yet.
I'm working on a design for a bed rack made with unistrut. I'll probably use aluminum for the ease of cutting and corrosion resistance. I think I can replicate an "overland" style rack for pretty cheap.

I agree it can be done well for a reasonable price. I plan on using the Unistrut angle connectors just as a guide/holder, and welding the basic structure. Only have a stick welder so aluminum is out. Zinc Chromate marine primer and bed coating will be fine on the steel. It will be about 6 inches high with the uprights at 45 deg angles, so it clears the bikes on outboard mounts. Kayaks when carried will sit in mounts I already have attached to the rack, more rearward off the back of the truck rather than over the cab. I can also add a cheap basket if needed, as well as ski racks I have. Universal. I will also design adapters so it can be used on top of a utility trailer if needed.
