I’ve seen people cut giant holes on the roof and mount tents on top but not completely chop the entire top off a la convertible style

Cutting is overrated and prone to leaks. What you need instead is a 2nd helm. Bed mount or roof mount options available.

I was thinking more so the new Broncos soft top type.. it’s foldable and how it latches in seems pretty sturdy. In my mind it seems like its doable, but again im no expert in this field.. iv looked up tacoma roof replacements and it looks as if i can replace the whole roof without compromising any part of the structure/frame.. but again kinda just floating the idea and seeking a little more knowledge/insight. When i do do it, cause i will, ill def post vids/pics

Its true. Roof and pillars are structural and are vital to the truck's safety system. Cutting them would probably earn an instant salvage title.

I mean, I’ve seen threads where people want to cut their frame, so cutting off the roof isn’t far fetched…..

States get picky about what to allow on the roads. Jeeps have sturdy roll bars designed to keep people from sacrificing their lives on the altar of creativity. A truck designed to be fully enclosed ... hmm

The way the a-pillars are curved on a tacoma, I'm struggling to think where it could be cut and not look like crap.

While convertibles from previous generations had almost no strength in the a-pillar to protect the occupants in a roll-over....removing roll-over protection for a vehicle with off-road capabilities seems imprudent. I guess you could replace the b-pillar structural support with a rollbar tied with struts back to the a pillars?

I've had about every type of roof hole in various vehicles in my personal cars over the last several decades. Convertibles, tee-tops, sun roofs, moon roofs, I've had them all. The one thing they all had in common is they eventually leak, and they eventually leak A LOT.

So OP, you should definitely do it. Style, safety, and dryness are all overrated anyway.

I really meant that in a joking way, don't get angry, you came to the forums asking a wild question, and don't expect ridiculous replies? You might find someone doing something like that over on some hardcore offroad or Rock Crawler forums.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If you can picture it you can draw it.

Lets see what you need .

Construction and building I don`t see a problem.Cost a few thousand no more then $ 5000.00 though a good paint job would rise the price much higher.

I sure would not want to be out in any rain or Snow .

The truck is paid for correct ? Anything like this much modification your loan would be called in as the truck value has vastly decreased . Can you cover the loan?

I am sure you see some advantage I sure don`t Though it is a interesting challenge.

Probably a lot cheaper than project you’re thinking about,,, that’s not including all the downtime.

Top Gear did it (ish). Put the roof on pneumatic pistons, hit a button and it slides back to open.
