Hey guys I think I found the source of the metal ticking noise on my 2020 TRD Tacoma. Here is the video of the noise and I provided a picture of what I think it is. It’s a green wire coming off the exhaust on the passenger side. When I tap the wire it hits the heat shield. Do you guys have any idea of what I could temporarily place there that won’t melt to see if it’s the actual culprit.

Sounds like mine. It does noticeable a “ting” noise but been told it’s normal.

@Tacomike18 so it’s normal for my truck to make those ticking noise when I’m slowly accelerating just like in the video.

These engines self clean the injectors from time to time and you can hear it as a "ticking" in the engine. This doesn't sound like that what's going on here to me. I can tell you mine does not do that. I see you have a 2020, bring it to the dealer, you have bumper to bumper.

Does the tick sound speed up/slow downwith motor RPM?

It sounded more like a piece of metal bouncing around to me, perhaps the heat shield itself.

I only hear it when I’m accelerating at low speeds with the windows down. As soon as I let off the gas the noise stops. For the life can’t figure what the hell is making the noise

I’ve brought it to 3 different dealers and they all say it’s normal. I’m at the point now where I’m about to get rid of it. I like the truck but the noise drives me crazy

Does it do that revving at idle or only when accelerating?

Yes I can hear it when I start the truck from a cold start. And then it’s only if I’m driving from 10-25 mph. I can’t hear it if I have the windows up only when the windows are down. All my friends keep telling me to turn the radio up lol, but I’ve been kind of obsessed with the noise because I’ve been hearing since about the 1st week of owning it.

I’ve taken it to 3 different dealers. I’ve showed the video each time I’ve gone. 2 of the times I sat there for 5 hours for them to tell me they can’t duplicate the noise.

Test drive another V6 on the dealer's lot. If it makes the same noise, it's normal.

May well be. "New electrical architecture" with 2020s.

Another thing you can do is go for a ride with the mechanic. You duplicate the noise for the mechanic to hear.

I’ve taken 3 mechanics out on the road. 1 mechanic said he couldn’t hear it, the other 2 both heard It and then I sat there for 5 hours for them tell me they can’t duplicate it again and that they opened a case with Toyota. Kind of crazy

Well you got 5 years or 60,000 miles to see if it's the motor!

That was my first initial thought when I first heard the noise. Me and brother were looking under the hood and determined the fan had enough clearance

Funny you say that. When I called Toyota about it they basically told me to drive until it breaks since the mechanics can’t figure it out and that if something were to break it would happen under warranty.

I thought something like that too, or maybe a heat shield rattling somewhere?
