Possible fix for dented tailgates

    A friend of mine said there is a Tacoma website, and looks like I found it!

    Great info here - thank you to all the contributors.

    My tailgate is dented (see pic), and the cost to replace w a new one, paint etc is high.

    I'm considering buying this accessory (see other pic) which fits over the tailgate and might cover over the damage. Of course I'd have to bang out the dent as best I can first. Anyone try this before? Think it might work?

    I'd contact a paintless dent repair specialist in your area first. If they can't fix it I'd just turn it in on my insurance. Shit happens and that's what insurance is for. :notsure:

    Might depend how good a banger you are.

    I'd be shopping used from wrecking yards. 3rd gens are 6 model yrs in now, some have to be showing up

    no doubt there is 1 undamaged.................U might have to beat the bushes

    maybe repaint a good 1

    I've found there is no time effective way to see if salvage yards have a Tacoma tailgate. None of the yards near me list their available vehicles online - so I guess one has to drive from yard to yard w fingers crossed?

    could be rewarding

    in my area we have a p/u only salvage yard

    it works

    Ended up making a claim w insurance co.
    $500 deductible, which is still better than what used salvage piece + new paint woulda cost me.
