    Hi folks,

I just recently moved up to the Portland area and I'm looking for recommendation on shops that work on 4wd.

Right now I have some welding/ fab work I'd like to get done, if it's a good shop that knows there's stuff it's always good to have a second eye on things every once in a while.

Open to your recommendations and experiences. Looking forward to exploring up here

    Cheers

Get in touch with Aaron Giddings. His email is 4x4crusher@gmail.com and his phone is 971-732-3679
Currently working with him to fab up an over-softopper rack for kayaks and such.

I'm in the preliminary stages of wanting a bed rack over softopper...

Something like this I found here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-advice-reviews-videos-or-input.701448/page-4

Scroll down to the 5-7th post on page 4. @Irishfella came up with an sweet design! @Sixthelement further down the page has a nice looking design as well.

I want something to toss a pair of kayaks on when needed, maybe a cargo rack if needed or tie off a hammock or awning off the back. Plus it'll give me a place to hard mount a third brake light. :D

Had a very positive experience working with Accessory Outfitters. Worked primarily with Jon and he was super helpful!

what work did you get done?

I have some plans do some some suspension work with NW cruisers. Not sure if anyone here has experiences with them but Tony from NW cruisers seems to be a pretty capable guy.

They installed our full length drilled Prinsu rack on a 4Runner, did the wiring for power to the roof rack to run Baja Designs rock lights to the rack, mounted/wired S2 Pro's as ditch lights, and installed/hooked up the Switch Pro unit.

Yes, and wow, thanks for the heads up.

I’ve interacted with a few shops so far in the area and none have particularly impressed me so far, so lancruisers NW was the next place I wanted to check out. Definitely not a good interaction from that thread, dissapointed to see that.

Their shop rate is also high at $140, but that’s an ok price if the people are trustworthy and the work is done well

My buddy with a 60 series won’t take it anywhere else. But maybe Tacoma suspensions aren’t their strong point.

I’ve always liked this shop for tires and suspension. They specialize in track cars, but can handle installing a lift easily. https://tracksideracetires.com/

    Speciality or not,
    1. The noise from that bolt running should have been obvious.
    2. from the OP, they charge a lot more than the initial quote without an explanation.

Oh, for sure. That’s why I linked that other post about suspension. I suppose I was pointing out that they are capable of good work and experiences there are varied. Not where I’d take my truck, but giving info so the OP can decide.

automotive outfitters is my go to for alignments. They actually understand aftermarket suspension and oversized tires and set things up accordingly.

I've gone to Uncle Dan's near Washington Square for alignments. Real good shop. Spoke to Dan himself when I was doing some clearancing for the 35s to see if they could push the caster anymore to give me just a little more room. Didn't end up getting anymore but they did give it a try and were very friendly and knowledgeable. I'd go back to them for tires/wheels/alignment in a heartbeat.

    Good recommendations above…

Im going to be doing some non-trivial work on my front LT setup, including this lower arm mount replacement from JD fab:https://jdfabrication.com/collections/05-15-6-lug/products/tacoma-05-18-lower-arm-pivots

… so I want to find a shop that both likes and is familiar with the Tacoma IFS and can help me dial in the front end. Generally I haven’t had the easiest time finding folks to work with who are interested I dialing in a suspension beyond bolting on a kit.

A few people on here have recommended Mach 1 Motorsports and say that Vince is a good guy.

I'm planning on taking my shocks there to have them rebuilt, just haven't gotten around to it.

Lolo Overland and Wonderlust Overland do some custom stuff. Might try chatting with them on possibilities.

OP, what kind of welding jobs are you looking to get accomplished?

I had some shocks put in, new axles and needle bearing delete done there. Solid guys who know their stuff. They're a bit on the expensive side, but I'd argue most shops in the metro area are.
