POR15 is great stuff. Just do it, works better if there is a little bit rust. Clean/mirror like surface won't work.

I've used it around 40F (might have been a little colder). It takes a long time to fully cure when it's cold. I'm not sure if it's the temp or lack of humidity that made it longer to dry. This stuff uses humidity to dry... If you get a can, don't open it. Poke a small hole on the top side of the can. Squirt out a bit in a plastic container and seal the can with a sheet metal screw. The instructions will tell you after opening to place plastic wrap over the paint in the can and around the edge of the lid. ANY paint between the lid and the can with metal to metal contact will make it hard to open again.

POR15 is indeed expensive. The prep work is critical.

It works far better on cast diffs (porous) and extremely rusted surfaces. The paint tends to 'seep' into the rust/porous parts.
If you have bare, flat, and/or surface rust - be sure to completely clean and prep the areas or it won't completely stick.

The first layer of POR15 doesn't go very far (did I mention, seepage). The 2nd coat goes much farther.

We coated a pair of D44 axles off an 89 Grand Wagoneer. The diffs, rusted brake parts coated nicely and stayed indefinitely. The axle tubes were smooth & rust free to begin with. Following prep instructions and purchased the "metal ready' formula - it still chipped off in certain areas.

Putting POR15 on leaf springs - I'd be concerned with stretching & flexing. Can the POR15 withstand the flex/stretch without cracking or flaking off?
