I purchased the original Pop n Lock from a dealer in Newfoundland, Canada. I installed the Pop n Lock fairly easily in about 15 min. I found that the device would continuously lock itself. If I opened the tailgate and shut it or if I opened the handle again while the tailgate was still down, it would automatically lock. Nothing the key couldn't open. My only concern is that since I have a locking trifold tonneau cover and an autolocking Pop n Lock, what would happen if the P n L broke. I would be locked out of the bed. I was quite concerned about this and re-installed the old handle. I dont believe this is the the correct operation of the Pop n Lock. Could someone confirm this. It seems as if the mechanism is sticking and locks itself. Anyone else having this issue with theirs?

Did you install it right? If so, I would put it back on and take it to the dealer and show them what its doing since you bought it from there. Mine works perfect.

You are talking about the "powered" version right ? If so, yes it is normal for it to lock by itself. As for it malfunctioning, I have an Access LE cover but I think I should be able to slide a hacksaw blade in between the cover and tailgate and pull the release latch cord.

This is not the power pop n lock. It is your basic model. I bought it from a Pop n Lock dealer on Ebay. It is the original pop n lock. Maybe it is a china knock off. It was listed as original and it looks original. Its guaranteed. There is something not right. It says made in Canada on the packaging. Like I mention earlier, if it is unlocked and i open the handle and shut the tailgate, it will lock itself. This is for the 09 and 10 Tacoma. I will send it back. Trust me when I tell you I know what I am doing. It would be hard to mess up this install. Just a POS.

I just searched TW to see if someone had the same problem. Mine locks itself as well. I contacted the ebay seller in Newfoundland. He said no problem, just return it. I want to replace it with an electric lock so there isn't a keyhole to freeze up, which mine constantly does and makes it really annoying when I can't unlock my self-locking tailgate. Can anyone recommend a good electric tailgate lock that will work with my power locks? ..... not happy with the Pop & Lock product.

There's a spring update that came out in April. Call Pop & Lock, I got one about a week ago and it no longer has this problem.

I have the manual key operated Pop & Lock and don't have this issue at all. In fact i love mine a lot and swear by it. Sounds like a faulty lock to me.

I have the springs coming also, i installed it back in October and it was fine for about 2 months then every time i would close the tailgate or just drive the truck it would end up locked.

Damn, it's not supposed to be locked when you take key out then shut the tailgate? I like mine like that.
