Its a bit of a strange question I know, but how do you guys handle pooping when in between camp sites? I'll be taking the wife and kids on a trip this year, and they cant go all day like me and wait til we are at camp. So what have you done while you are on the trail? Do you get out and dig a hole? Dump and run? Just looking for ideas so I am prepared.

I use a Boxio toilet. Works great, especially if it’s more of a family trip.

Problem is the wife part, my kid can poop anywhere right now.

I'm not sure I could be bothered to force a lady to use anything shy of an outhouse anymore, its up to you and the lady. hitch may work for you but she may hate it.

Get one of those portable pop up privacy showers. Cost like $30 on Amazon.

One of the many reasons I don't camp unless there's a cabin with a shower, sink, toilet, tv, mattress, full kitchen, ect.

    If you must,

Reliance Luggable Loo Portable toilet from Amazon or REI. $20 (5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat) Up to you to decide how to handle the rest. :hattip:

My wife won't camp unless there is a turn down service, jetted tub, room service and a sommelier.

5 gallon bucket with lid, kitchen trash bags, small bag of kitty litter, and a pool noodle (the larger diameter kind for a preference).

Measure pool noodle to run around the top of the bucket and cut to length. Install trash bag in bucket. Carefully cut a split down the pool noodle lengthwise, then press it over the rim of the bucket and trash bag for a nicely padded seat. Add a layer of kitty litter on the bottom for absorbency and odor control. Keep the bucket lid on it until ready to use. You can dispose of "the materials" after each use, or add a layer of fresh kitty litter on top and use for a couple times until disposal is convenient. The trash bag can then be thrown in the next trash can you come across, a little gross maybe but perfectly legal (think of all the dog waste bags and diapers that go into public trashcans already).

This is very inexpensive (sub $20) and very effective.

If you want to be even more fancy they make 5 gallon bucket toilet seats (luggable loo is a name brand I believe). For privacy, one of those little stall tents.

Another thought: Bedside medical commodes for old folks are generally WAY better built than similar portable toilets for camping. Most of them also fold flat for easy transport just like the portable/camping kind.

    https://www.amazon.com/Drive-Medical-Folding-Bedside-Commode/dp/B001HP7AQE/

They have a catch basin with a lid that can also be lined with a bag and accept kitty litter or whatever. The one I link above is only $35. It has 4 adjustable legs so it can be height adjusted and even independently adjusted for uneven ground situations.

In the Maize District of Canyonlands NP you must remove your doodie. Digging holes in solid rock doesn't work so well. I believe this is the Luggable Loo.

When we were camping in Moab a few years ago I just brought a 5 gallon bucket (with a lid) and some kitty litter in it. Only issue was making sure it was well strapped down in the bed when we were wheeling lol.

There are also wag bags, or the copies thereof. They are a bit pricy compared to rednecking it with kitty litter, but your essentially paying for the convenience. They also make a fold up toilet if space is short. They say 3 uses for each bag, but that's bunk. 1 to 2 at most. You can buy more of the powder, to maybe get an extra use out of one bag.

On the north side of Moab at a public waste disposal site, they have a trash can reserved just for wag bags, so it seems they are fairly commonly used.

When the I take the family out on the beach and drive on we use a pop-up privacy tent, portable camp toilet, & disposable chemical bags. Necessary with wife & daughter.
