Narrowed down to these two tire choices. Wanted to see what the community recommended.

I am pretty positive Toyo and Nitto are sister companies so both tires should be similar quality.

I personally like how both tread patterns are not as aggressive as a Mud Terrain and more aggressive than an All Terrain tread.

Planning to order 285/70/17 paired with SCS Stealth 6s in Matte Gunmetal Flavor on a White DCSB Sport trim. 2-3" lift with complete suspension kit from HS Offroad.

I am already assuming I will be doing a CMC with either set up and further trimming. Does anybody have any experience where they have not had to do any drastic trimming with either setups?

I have the Toyo RT tires and they've been awesome so far, no experience with the Ridge Grapplers though.

Is your truck going to be used on road or off road? And do you care about MPG or is tire strength and side wall strength more important than MPG?

Its my daily driver so 80-90% of my driving is on road.
Within 7000miles I've already got 2 flats driving on gravel roads with my stock tires so I am more than ready to upgrade to something a little beefier. I believe my MPG will be shot either way but I assume I can save some going with the C rated tire.

Unless you're in sharp rocks the C rated tires would be the best choice IMO. Stronger than stock and a bit lighter than the E rated.

Whats your reasoning with the Coopers?
I've never ran anything more aggressive than a Hankook Dynapro A/T so I lack experience in some of these other choices.

It's a hybrid tire at/mt best of both world .. my maxxx are lighter than both those tires you are looking at ... I'm running a 255/80/17 33" tire ,I think you would be happy since you don't off road as much
Also 55k mile rated .. I've had mine about 2 months and I would change one thing . I ran Toyo open country AT for 8 years should have made the switch sooner

Overall at first glance I am not interested in the MAXX. The Pros are an attractive tire but leans closer to a mud terrain thats not going to have a long tread life.
My decision also leans towards looks over function to an extent. I realize that's foolish, but also the reason why I am not jumping to conclusions and trying to get some different opinions.
I like the fact that the toyo and nitto tires both look aggressive but not quite as aggressive as a mud tire would be, or as noisy.

Ridge graps are the hottest hybrid out imo. Atturo Trail Blade XT is another, lower price, hybrid that's been getting good reviews.

Like they said toyo nitto same company .. you should check out the st maxxx in person .. way more aggressive than both those tires. But it's your truck you should choose what suits you best. Maybe the nittos with the flames in the thread

Actually your 255/80's are the same weight as the RT's and RG's in 285/70. The RG "c" load is 54lb which is lightest and better ride I'm sure.

I just ordered the Nitto RG C in a 265/70r17.

    What does "CMC" mean?

Cab mount chop. Just some extra necessary trimming for most 285 tire sizes

I've got a 6 inch procomp lift. I didn't have to do the CMC . They do rub the sway bars .

Ah, got it. Didn't know it was called that, but that's one reason why I went with 265/70r17 (besides weight and mpg). They're about an inch larger than the OEM tires and will have a slightly more aggressive stance, but shouldn't require any trimming to give me rub-free operation even at full turn on a trail. I also change vehicles a good bit and like the idea of returning to stock if I change my mind.

Now that you have yours on, how bad was the CMC process? My local shop indicated it sometimes requires fairly significant butchering in that spot unless one only desires to mall crawl.
