I like the concept of yellow or amber fogs. What I don't like is have a different color for fog, drl, and low beam at the same time. Even the difference in white between my led fogs and hid low beams is strange to me while driving. (5k and 6k)

I like the look of amber/yellow fogs but I don't think there's any sort of advantage to using them over clear?

Yellow works better in foggy conditions. I also like them better when its snowing out, which in many ways is similar to fog with light reflection. The yellow light reflects less making them a great choice for a fog light.

That's what I figured but I wasn't sure if that had any backing to it. I imagined if yellow/amber was better for fog lights, then why don't they come that colour from the factory?

Regardless, I've been looking for some amber/yellow fog lights to replace the clear ones I have now.

I am struggling between leaving the fogs as-is or going with amber. It really pops on black trucks, need to see more pics on white trucks before I decide.

There are a lot of things that are better options than OEM - comes down to bean counters and the uneducated market not asking for said option. Also, lots of people use their "fog lights" as "driving lights" and want them to supplement their low beams in regular everyday driving conditions...

Makes sense. Average drivers nowadays are pretty clueless. My favourite is when it's foggy and people turn on their fogs without turning off their low beams.

in my state if its foggy you have your wipers on.. state law requires your headlights to be on when wipers are on, or the conditions dictate...

That's kinda silly. Defeats the purpose of having fog lights, doesn't it?

no, having your high beams on however does defeat the purpose thus the interlock.. the idea of a fog light is to show light on the road, thus when you turn on your high beams, the interlock relay makes your fogs turn off.. I've driven in every type of condition imaginable from 3 day blowing snowstorms, icestorms, severe rain, souper thick fog (15ft visibility). never had an issue having my low beams on with fogs...

Seems a point of contention. They're supposed to produce less glare/reflection in the fog/snow than the driving lights, which is why it's silly to use the driving lights alongside them. I suppose if you need to see the road but don't care/get glare then it makes sense?

Voted Amber. I have the Rigid DOT's on my truck with the amber covers. I noticed with my light setup: TRS 35w HID's in 5500k in the low beams and the Rigids in clear there is "too much light" directly in front of the truck which gives me a little bit of a reduction in night vision. When I run the amber covers and tone down the color temp of the fogs I feel like distance vision is greatly improved. Plus when its wet, rainy or foggy the amber light illuminates the road much better. Just my .02

Rigid DOT/SAE duallys with white beams and Amber covers. Throw the Amber covers on during the winter months and then remove them in the spring. Install as winter approaches.

    Done.

Currently debating between yellow and amber. Bought some lamin-x in both colors to test out.

Likely the same reason DOT required sealed beam headlights for so long while everybody else got H4 headlights.

Exactly the same boat I'm in. I have yellow, but I'm going to replace with amber when the weather warms a bit.
