Polk vs JBL components

I'm thinking of going this route with the factory non jbl head unit:

Polk Audio DXi6501
vs
JBL GT7-6C

I love JBL (have JBL for my home thx setup) but hear great things about Polk. Never installed a set of Polk components... the JBLs I put in my WRX 10 years ago rocked... Thoughts?

Never tried either, but there is so much difference between even the same brand. definitely agree you need to try and audition them if you can.

 

The problem is finding some place that has said speakers for auditioning them... thanks for the input.

 

I personally prefer Polk over JBL. I have had some experience with their subs and tweeters, and i was impressed with the speakers for the price point. JBL is a good brand but i feel like you have to cough up some money to get a "good" set of JBL speakers.

Also it depends on what you are going for.... Are you getting an amp to power your new speakers? Are you getting a subwoofer? Do you want people to hear you from down the street, or do you want to hear every sound as crisp as it can be? Or do you just want a little upgrade from what you have now?

I ask these because if you are going to do it, then do it right so you dont have to go back and spend more money later.

 

I'm wanting it to sound good inside. Could care less about outside. I'm too old for subs now-a-days... I used to build a sub box for each vehicle, but not anymore...

I'm planning on using the stock head unit (10 watt rms from what I have read) and not using an amp.

 

I am looking to do the same setup in my 2016. I am looking at the same Polk speakers as you. But speakers a very much a personal preference, and Polks are my favorite. I plan to install the amp, because for a little more money, you really will notice a big difference. You really should run an amplifier with those component speakers anyway, and you should be aware that under-powering your speakers can actually damage them; overpowering them is not nearly as much of a concern. If you really don't want to run an amp, you're probably better off running coaxial speakers and disconnecting the factory tweeter.

I'm buying my Polk speakers online from one vendor but buying most of the other components from *********. They make an amp and all the wiring and adapters to fit our trucks perfectly. They're also the only place I've found that has the tweeter mounts. They have the full speaker setup, but it would end up costing twice what my Polk setup will run. Let us know what you decide to do, I'm curious. I plan to install everything on my own, Crutchfield has a good video on how to remove the paneling, and basic speaker install, and Taco Tunes has a great video showing how to run the component setup. I also don't plan to run a sub. I'd rather have the storage space.

My whole setup is going to run around $550. Which I think is pretty reasonable for a nice set of Polks and an amp.
