curious if anyone knows anything about polarized windshield films. It looks sweet on high end cars like Mercedes and Range Rovers. I can’t find any reviews online. Here’s what I’ve found.

    https://ultravisionfilm.com/auto/

    http://forums.nicoclub.com/finally-have-my-polarized-windshield-tint-t615133.html

The last video is what kind sold me on it. I live in Ohio and don’t want illegal tint so I was think about this on the windshield and just doing 50% tint on the front windows (I’d like to keep the cops out of my car)

    What do you guys think??

Ought to be real interesting when you've got your Polarized sunglasses on. I can't imagine putting ANYTHING on the windshield that cuts out any light at all. Anything that might reduce your night vision is a recipe for disaster.

any film on the windshield is illegal. on those high end cars the glass its self is tinted its not a film. we used to have people get a 3m film on their windshields and there was a huge liability surrounding it if you get in a collision. at least where I live that's the case.

The TRD Sport could definitely use a polarized windshield for the skewp glare.

If you're getting glare from your hood, the best bet is to use Polarized sunglasses. Polarizing filters work best at about a 30 degree angle to the reflecting surface, which is pretty close to how you see your hood. If you put a Polarizing film over your windshield, not only would it cut down on visible light transmission, when you DO wear Polarized sunglasses, you're likely to see large dark spot where there is an effective moiré between the competing Polarizing films. In commercial photography we use Polarized light and Polarized lenses to control reflections when copying paintings and anything with a reflective surface where you want to control or eliminate unwanted reflections. A single Polarizing filter on its own will only work when the angle of reflectance is within the optimum range of the Polarization.

I had the film on my car a few years ago. I live in the desert and it really cut the heat gain down. You couldn't tell there was a film on the windshield at all. Actually got pulled over and ticketed for front side windows being tinted but the cop didn't notice the windshield film at all. Unfortunately I caught a rock and had to replace the windshield and didn't want to spend another $500 to re film it. But if you live in a super hot location it does work.

With the comments about that and the anti-glare sticker from the accessory catalog, I was wondering how that was going to be for me this year. For whatever reason, the glare is no distraction for me. I know the hood and skewp are there, just like any other time of day / year, but it isn't a problem, for me. The interior trim was a big problem though, reflecting in the windows and causing me to look even in the winter. Thankfully, TW was there to help with that.

Unfortunately, my daily commute is eastward in the morning and westward in the evening. For a few weeks in the late fall and early spring, I have a major issue with glare off the skewp. I'm planning to add matte black vinyl soon a la the TRD Pro.

I can't explain it and do drive in those conditions. I'm just happy that it works for me even though I've always thought the antiglare stickers tend to look good, like on aircraft.

I run a 70% Ceramic film on the front windshield of mine. Its so light you can hardly tell its there, its more of a heat rejection film than it is a tint. I have run it on all of my trucks for the past 10 years and never once has a cop noticed it. It greatly helps with the nighttime glare and keeps the heat down in the truck when it sits all day. I have also noticed that it does not affect the range on my Valentine1.

i got this shit on my wife's Tiguan. she loves it. i hate it. why? because i am used to wearing high quality polarized sunglasses. with this film, if you use those it will be too dim and with polarizing artifacts. the film is not as clear and nice as the sunglasses lenses, so i basically just exchanged good filtration for crap filtration. but my wife doesn't need her sunglasses and that makes her happy. and her windshield is somewhat unclear and scratched up like crazy. so i guess it's whatever you like.

It's not about the cops, it's about if you screw up and get into an accident. Lawyers look for anything.

The reason for films like 3M or tint being illegal (in Alberta anyway) on the windshield and front door windows is because the glass is designed to shatter with pretty minimal force with edges that wont harm you like normal glass.

When a window has film applied, it holds that broken piece of glass together into one large piece. So instead of shards flying around your car you have one big piece of glass being hurled at your body.

(Tint up there is also illegal because when you're pulled over, police need to be able to see the driver for safety reasons)

Sorry, but all front windshields laminated. Two panes of glass with polymer in the middle. Been this way for decades. Also, the volvo v70 that we bought used had freaking laminated side windows that was an option at the time. They were there for security and a bit of noise suppression. These are options on some cars today.

But, yes. All windows are made from tempered glass that will shatter into small pieces, not large shards that can impale.

... right. No where did I mention that factory lamination was an issue. If glass (from the factory) is designed a specific way for safety reasons, and lamination is part of that process, it's a moot point.

What were talking about is aftermarket film that is not part of the factory design. That alters the way the glass breaks up. Like 3M or tint which is what I mentioned.

You can get clear ceramic tint for the windshield. That's what I got to cut down on the IR and UV light. Helps your interior from getting sun dried and reduces heat in the cab. That's why I got it.

You don't really need tint that is polarized. Sounds like a marketing gimmick to me. Polarization is used for cutting out visual parts of the spectrum. Heat is transferred mainly in the infrared range from what I understand. So wouldn't necessarily be the best heat reducer. But it might make it easier on the eyes if that's all you care about.

Did you say $500 just for a windshield tint?? I'm sorry man but sounds like you might've gotten taken advantage of. That sounds way too high for just a single panel...if polarization is that expensive I don't think it's worth it. But that's just me.
