OK so it's pretty clear that, even with the tonneau cover, the bed of my 2023 Tacoma Sport isn't exactly waterproof. I was on Amazon last night looking at cargo bags (much like and including rooftop cargo bags) that would fit in the truck bed with the tonneau cover closed. This limited the height of the bag to 17+ inches. So the overall dimensions were like 50" x 40" x 17". The bags available in that size had some pretty shitty reviews, and I'm looking for some decent quality -and- waterproof. I'm also toying with the notion of maybe using something smaller to give me more versatility when I'm not hauling all my stuff to the summer house.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.

Not sure what the use is going to be, but I’ve been using the Milwaukee Packout totes/boxes for a couple years for grab and go tools and misc stuff that I wanted to be sure would stay dry under the tonneau of my F150

I'll be filling the back with luggage, bedding, groceries, etc. This is my first truck so I never had to contend with the idea of this stuff getting wet. I guess I could simply buy a box of heavy-duty contractor bags as well!

Check out a local motorcycle store that sells apparel and accessories. You can check out RevZilla or a similar place that sells dry bags. I wouldn't go over 60L or 80L as the bags are quite big and will get heavy AF. The difference in price is usually the quality of materials and abrasion resistance - you probably don't need a motorcycle dry bag that is high end and can survive a high or low side slide; this is just to give you an idea of what is out there.

Edit: it is hard to size these things just looking at pictures. A 60 or 80 liter bag is about as big as those giant, multi day Osprey packs you find in outdoor stores. Depending on what you want to carry, several 40L bags or a couple of 60 or 80L bags should be fine.

    As advertised, no.

Depends what your needs are though. If you have a tonneau, they'll keep water away from whatever is in them in the bed.

Has worked for me. And for 5 bucks for the zipper bags, a buck for the open top bags....Worth a shot :notsure:

You could possibly look into outdoor stores, such as REI. I recently picked up one of the Plano storage boxes (smaller one) from Home Depot for less than $20. Good luck

I would look into sealing the front section of the bed interior with silicone. Then tailgate with weatherstripping. This is a common issue with truck bed toppers aswell and you will find similar solutions for your tonneau.

ESI Ultimate Tailgate Seal with Taper Seal 6ft for Either The Sidewalls or The Tailgate Bottom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019QFCZ7A

I currently use a hitch cargo bags for my SUV with no water intrusion. Ive had good luck with both bag brands.

If you dont have a bed mat i would highly recommend the tacoma bed mat.

A bed net divider may also work for your application.

Not sure why your cover doesn’t keep out the water. The only moisture I get are the holes by the tailgate

I had a similar issue OP, a tonneau cover is not really waterproof as water still gets into the bed. I had considered bigger and smaller cargo bags. Instead, the solution that worked the best for me was plastic storage containers, kind of like the Sterilite 12-gallon plastic storage totes or Rubbermaid ones.

These containers are inexpensive, the bottom is waterproof (since they will not be submerged or get rained on), will fit under the tonneau cover, and can sit side by side in the bed along the cab. I generally keep a couple of empty ones in the bed of my truck for day-to-day stuff. I can dump power tools inside, wood scraps, groceries (so they don't slide around), winter gear, etc. When I go camping I will switch out these empty totes with the similar totes with recovery gear and camping gear already pre-packed (saves me time to pack and unpack each trip). I couple the totes with a ratcheting cargo bar to prevent the empty totes from sliding out of reach, toward the cab-end of the bed.

Since you have a tonneau cover, all you need are containers that are waterproof on the bottom. As I age, I have less and less desire to carry big containers loaded with things around. And having separate totes, I can organize my truck bed a bit better. Unfortunately, these totes do not have strap-down points. But since I have a rubber bed mat, when loaded, they don't slide around anyway.

So far, I have used these totes for over 6 years and I have been pretty satisfied with them. There are more robust containers and other totes that are a better fit inside the truck bed dimensions, I am able to get all the totes I need for the truck and for storing my gear in my garage for less than the cost of a single tote from Roam, Pelican, etc.

I have the Plano sportsman, got it at Amazon and sealed it with weather stripping, I throw all kinds of tools and straps in there along with my DeWalt lug nuts wrench and everything stays dry.

Can confirm this is a solid route to go, as my cheap bin has served me perfectly and no leaks at all through snow and ice on top. If OP wants a fancier solution here a thread with a nice Pelican box with mounting and locking if that is more your taste but a cheap bin will go a long ways. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...its-with-retrax-tonneau.727786/#post-28315452 I love my cheap bin.

Same for me. The bed stays pretty much dry. No water in the back even after the heavy rains we just had.
