    Looking for advice, thoughts etc.
I started my truck today no issue, a few minutes later I made a stop and when I started the truck back up my check engine light came on with the message below.

I have a sprint booster hooked up but it has been switched off and unused for at least a month and probably over 1000 miles and no lights issues etc.

What could have caused this and what should I do besides remove and probably sell the SB I don't use.

Should I take out the SB and go to dealer? Will they know somehow about the SB and find my warranty voided? Is there another common cause of this?

Truck is just under a year old with 11k miles on it.

Seems like having a device that involves the throttle then having a problem with the throttle is more than coincidental. But a '21 with 11k miles? Seems like you have to take it to the dealer

Are you receiving any other errors? If you get an error about brake override then the sprint booster is the problem

Have you unplugged the Sprint Booster and tried starting it up again to see if the message goes away?

It’s still under warranty. Take it to the dealer would be my first call on something like this.

I just went and unplugged it, light was still on. I drove it down the street and back and started it again, still there.

Sorry for the maybe silly question but how do I clear the code? Do I have to unplug the battery?
I am not sure I should skip dealer check just in case there is actually an issue. I don't want to end up on the highway with no throttle or something.

To clear the code you need a scan tool with the capability of clearing codes, or you can disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few min. You can either completely remove the SB, clear the code and drive it to see if the code comes back, or remove the SB, leave the code, and have the dealer look at it. Once you remove the SB there should be no footprint that lets them know it was ever there.

I looked at the Sprint Booster and Pedal Commander and decided against them, mainly for 2 reasons. One is that if the stupid thing ever fails your throttle is deader than a doornail. The other is that it's drawing it power from that accelerator connector, a circuit that was never meant to power anything additional like a SB. Who knows what problems that will cause?

    Update

I took out the SB and brought the truck to Toyota they said a code was thrown for the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).

Never heard of a VSV until now. Being that this is still a fairly new truck should I be concerned that I am getting errors this early? Anything to look out for or keep in mind?

Don't think the SB will be going back in since I don't use it, I will likely sell it.

Thanks to all who answered and those who will respond to this.

Sounds like an emissions system component glitch maybe? Emissions systems are kind of complicated these days so it's not surprising when you see these kind of fault codes pop up. sometimes it's just a one time glitch that takes care of itself and sometimes it means a part has outright failed and needs to be replaced. No big deal though; they should fix it under warranty as long as you did not do anything else mod wise to possibly cause this to happen.

    Thanks for the update.

I wouldn't be too concerned about getting the error this early. Take comfort the systems are working and give you warning before a breakdown occurs to leave you stranded with more costs.

Always, always be hesitant and extremely cautious with add-on that "claim performance" improvements. Many times these "mods" will FUBAR a system. Modern vehicles have a very complex control and nerve system. Everything communicates with everything else.

Hey, any update on this? I have the same exact message on my 2020 Tacoma as I type this. Have you had any issues since? on my way to drop it off at the dealer.

I removed the SB and when I restarted the truck the warning was gone.... I returned the SB and have not looked back.

VSV isn't known to fail often. Probably just coincidental with the Sprint Booster.

I got this notification yesterday, took it into the shop for a code check and the wonderful facility that changed my oil 2k miles ago, didn’t put my oil cap back on.

I just got this message today when I started my 2020 tundra. I don’t have any sprint boosters on it or even know what that is but I did have my oil changed a couple thousand miles ago I’m hoping they just forgot the cap. I know they forgot to reset the maintenance message and I had to do that myself. I sure hope it’s something easy. Ugh

Wait, what? You haven’t looked under the hood at even the cap for a couple thousand miles ago and the last people who did was the service center?? Dang, who knows what could be wrong in there! Electrical issues like that in an unattended engine compartment could even have been caused by rats chewing up your harnesses and even nesting in there…

It’s a good idea not to trust the service guys, all of us have had bad experiences with doing that and not checking up on their work afterwards. I learned the hard way also. Sorry to hear you’re having a problem, hopefully yours is just something basic also.
