I've been looking at this as a cost efficient alternative to new rims but was wondering if tacoma world would like to share their personal experiences on this with me? Please no opinions, I know rims are the way to go but don't have the funds at the moment...cheers!!

I loved mine when I had them. Never had any issues and held up really well.

I used a Graphite color made by Rustoleum to do mine. Similar product I think its called pealcoat and I am happy with the results. Paid around 10 bucks for two cans and they seem to be holding up through the harsh northeast winter so far.

I dipped mine too, turned out good. black with graphite metalizer topcoat. when I got new tires, when they mounted them, it peeled a bit at the ring, so I ripped it all off, will redo some day

I think if you're going to do it then do the whole wheel not just the rim. :D

I didn't even mask the tire when I did mine. the tires were new so the over spray peeled right off of the tire. I will re-dip them when I get some new shoes.

I did mine while on the truck too. I just taped off the tires and lug nuts and used plastic bags stuffed in behind the rim to keep over spray off the brakes etc.

I was faced with this too. I thought of plasti-dipping but i heard they can get knicked up and look like garbage easily if you ever go off road. So i washed, removed, lightly sanded, washed, used self-etching primer, and then used Gunmetal colored wheel paint X 3 coats, and let sit in a heated room for 18 hours. Turned out pretty nice.

First pic: After a coat or two, drying. Second & Third pic are on the truck.

I will be dipping my Taco's rims in a week or so. Just need to decide on a color. I dipped my Honda Ridgeline's rims black, and after 3 yrs, and a tire change they still looked pretty good when I traded it in.
All winter I have been waiting for warm temps to do the job, and planned on doing black again. However I have become a real fan of the TRD Beadlock rims in the anthracite grey, just don't have the $ for them and new tires as well.

This is my truck as it sits today.

I am considering doing [IMG] or [IMG]

Either way the Toyota logos in the center will be red.

    Opinions?

How are people making the Toyota logo a different color? Does that piece pop off then glue it back on?
