Another great video from the Tinkerer's Adventure. He does a deep dive into what gives the best contact patch, Pizza Cutter vs Wide Tires.

^I just run skinny tires to fit a larger diameter than I otherwise could with a wider tire. Larger diameter has obvious advantages off road. Simple as that. :notsure:

    Some Serious Tires
My 255/80/17 have been stellar off-road. I climbed this hill with ease where my buddies LCs on 35x12.5 struggled a bit. Buddy even commented on it.

I think skinny tires perform better off-road 90% of the time, no question wide tires look better though.

I will only run 255s on my truck after running these tires for a bit over a year now.

Here is a good thread explaining why skinnies perform better in most situations.

I am all in with skinny's as well. Have been running them since 1984 on many different 4x4's. Currently 235/85R16's on '22 OR. Smaller hit on MPG than the big dogs - I lost approximately 1/2 to 1 mpg with an E load Nokian Outpost AT that weighed 2lbs more than the stock tires - likely due more to the increased rolling resistance than the slight weight increase. It's a size that is slowly being eliminated as manufacturers roll out new products but I will cross that bridge when it comes. I am good with 32" so some options in 17" with 255's as well when the time comes.

Im biting the bullet and going skinny!

My awesome Duratracs are getting close to the end of their life, but unfortunately dont come in a 33" 255. So I bought TRD 17" rims and will be going with 255/80/17 Wildpeak AT3's in the Fall.

I really wish companies would make a 255/85/16 all terrain or RT tire (besides the st maxx which cost more than my truck payment per tire). So many people would run them.

I’ve also considered switching to 17” wheels to be able to run a skinny that isn’t a mud terrain.

Does anyone here have any issues running skinnies with rubbing? I would like to go either 2558516 or 2558017 on a new setup soon but I don’t want rub obviously

Facts will win for sure. I loved the comparison between the IG public and the YT public.

Lol newsflash: skinnies will win in certain conditions. Wide tires will win in other conditions. Best overall? Normal tires for the win! Geez. Rocket science.

    Let's end it right now.
Skinnies where there is a bottom, like mud or wet dirt or icy snow.
Wides for sand or slick rock or deep snow where you are searching for flotation or traction.
    Normals for adequate performance everywhere.
