So while contemplating moving to C rated 285's from my current E rated 265/75/R16 before I put nearly 7k miles on my truck on a road trip this summer I stumbled upon these guys. Linky
(The MSRP on them seems to be closer to BFGS Toyos etc. It just seems nowhere stocks them so they are on sale online alot)

Now the thing is there is little to no information on these things domestically here in states. But searching turns up lots of sites discussing them in good old ру́сский as well as Europe and Australia and its easier to find pictures of them mounted to Hiluxs and Suzuki 4x4s then 4runners Jeeps Tacos etc. (I have found a total of 2 pics both on 4 runners lol)

Now I've run Pirelli tires on Motorcycles both dirt and street for the longest time and they are some of the best you can get not to mention Pirelli makes the tires for companies like Porsche etc. So there's no lack of brand name recognition and I can't imagine Pirelli putting out a tire thats just downright bad. One site autoplicity has these at 587 for 4 with free shipping and thats before a mail in rebate right now with Pirelli that would put you at 517 for a set of 4 285s. Compared to the C rated BFG 285/70/17 K02's that would set you back 920 for four. Considering thats nearly half the price and I could sell my E rated 265 K02s and basically make that back I'm gonna guinea pig this.

Normally I would not take a risk on an "unknown tire" right before taking off on a trip but Pirelli has just enough name recognition that it seems worth a shot. I've attached some pics so those curious can see what they look like. If anyone has had experience with these chime in with your thoughts before I go and blow a tire in the Montana backcountry.

Will also be updating and posting pics of these when I get them on, as well as my impressions.

I have a pretty sordid history with Pirellis. Crappy P6 and P Zero Nero M+S on our cars and Diablo Strada, Angel ST, and Angel GT on my bike. Only the Angel ST was a really good tire. I ran a few sets of those. All others were very bad in the rain with a bit of wear. The Angel GT were downright dangerous. I thought that I was only having issues on paint lines and tar snakes (never had a problem on any other tire), but after swapping them I found that I was two wheel drifting through wet corners on plain pavement.

Maybe their short wear super sport tires are better (good?), but I don't play in the region.

Yeah we have experienced different area's then, I've run their Diablo Rossos and Supercorsas on the track and used them some in the mountains, otherwise had good experiences with their Enduro/Dualsport tires on my KTM. I tend to rotate between Pirelli and Dunlop and normally just get what I can get a deal on but I know some people who have had issues with some of their tires although I've never heard any real horror stories.

With the Angel GT, I only had one set. So, I could either be an anomaly or a small batch issue. I had heard a few others mention the tar snake problem.

It is interesting that the stock Toyo A30 on the Taco do the same things in the wet. Otherwise they are a good tire, but I will be moving on to something else.

I finally tried a set of Michelin PR4 after all the great recommendations. They have been a spooky good tire in everything including about a 100 stupid miles or so of off road including five freaking water crossings. Looong stories. . . I've run a few sets of those and am looking forward to trying the PR5. The only issue I had was that I had to bump the pressure up by 2psi to get rid of some cupping and uneven wear across the section (seems to be a common problem).

I've had a good experience with Pirelli's. we have scorpion verde's on the wife's ML and they have been great. I ran Night Dragons on my Nightster and they were the stickiest I could find in that category and then Diablo Rossos for street and track day use, great results with them even though I've used Bridgestone most of my track day career

I tried to find more info on this tire about 6 months ago and could not find anything other than a Pirelli news release which is not enough info to buy a tire. Time will tell I guess.

Pirrelli is the 5th largest tire maker in the world and they make the #1 best tire for formula 1 racing cars. The Scorpion MTR is highly purchased and used in every different situation in other countries overseas. I just purchased these wheels and tires. Planning a snow run with my crew. I expect they will perform very well. Will post an update soon.

@Mully do these have a 2 ply or 3 ply sidewall? Friend of mine had some scorpions that he sliced the sidewall on driving down the caliche road to their ranch house.

My experiences with them are older... They made wonderful tires. There was a point during their growth in the middle/late 80s that they started moving production around. You could immediately tell the difference between those from different plants. The ones coming from (I Believe) Brazil were absolute trash. Poor grip, excessive wear, etc. It could very well be the same issue today, so the first question is... where are they making them?

I have the scorpion all season version on my wife’s Acura. Can’t speak on the MTR but it’s a solid tire company and hers does well in the show and dry conditions. We have had good experience with Pirelli tires in the past.

    I have load range C 6 ply.

Pirelli Tire North America (PTNA) includes the Modular Integrated Robotic Systems (MIRS) facility and research and development center at its Rome, Georgia headquarters, a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Silao, Mexico City, and a prestige flagship store in Los Angeles.

Here is a brand new tire. I will be putting these to the test in a multi-state run, dry, wet, rain, snow, mud, sand, and rocks. I will post pics of mine when I get them mounted. Stay tuned.
