Hoping someone can help, cannot find much info doing a Google search. Just finished installing the Pioneer 4700 and it will not read/ play music from a USB thumb drive. I am copying MP3 music from iTunes on a Macbook Pro to a thumb drive that was formatted into MS DOS (FAT).

This same thumb drive worked perfectly in another Pioneer single DIN unit in my old S10 pickup. Not sure what is the issue.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Which USB port are you using?

The USB extension from the back the head unit. Not the factory USB/ aux.

Bypass the extension to make sure it's not faulty. Plug it straight into the port on the back of the unit.

Did you put your files in a music folder? That's what I did with mine.

I did bypass the USB extension and still no luck. I went to the "home" directory on my Mac and then the iTunes library and copied the entire folder of each artist I want on the USB. That did not work either. Kinda stumped.

last time i tried that from iTunes it didn't work. i think you can only sync music to a portable apple device from itunes, not just copy/paste folders.

Fixed it by accident! While trying to setup AppRadio with my iPhone plugged into the same Pioneer USB extension, the head unit wanted me to confirm either USB or Bluetooth AV setting. I was previously setup as Bluetooth and changed it to USB. Then had the idea to double check the USB thumb drive because my iPhone was working via USB connection. And bam! USB thumb drive works perfectly.
