I'm working on installing this pioneer head unit, I've got the harness all wired up but am having trouble with the parking brake wire (light green). Says it needs to connect to the power side, not the ground of the parking brake. Anyone have any insight on this? Don't really care to bypass it seeing as I never watch movies in my truck. Thanks!

I have the same head unit, and I have the jbl system so I had to use a wire harness adapter and when I did, I just attacked the wire to a ground

Not to sure if it works plying movies as I've never tried but every thing else works

It use the power supply side of parking switch. To explain: the switch was a direst wire to ground. (it my be internal in the switch. unsure how switch is made) If the switch was 1 wire coming out of it, hook it to that wire. If there is two wires then use an ohm meter to find which wire was no resistance to ground. (continuity to ground.) The other wire will have high resistance or open circuit, use this wire.

Funny you should ask...I just dealt with this last night (see https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-green-wire-for-2nd-gen-parking-brake.467299/). I did the install today and all went well except tying the green wire into the parking brake was a real PITA. I was able to get it after doing a lot of contortionist moves.

I used a 20-18 wire tap from Advanced Auto and got it tied into the Green / Yellow wire on the parking brake switch. Since I couldn't get both hands in there at the same time (you'll see what I mean), I had to do a minor mod to the wire tap. The taps had one "line" that went all of the way through the tap for the full wire and the back one was capped off about halfway through the tap (so you don't have a loose end of the green stereo wire sticking out the end. My problem was that I couldn't get it one handed, so I used my drill and made both "lanes" through the tap so I could first hang the tap on the green / yellow E Brake wire and then added the green stereo wire into the front channel of the wire tap. Once I had the wire tap on securely, I just used some electrical tap to cover the loose end of the green stereo wire that was sticking out the end of the wire tap. It works now as it should, but it is a PITA until I figured out the trick to be able to first hang the tap on the E Brake wire...

Sorry it's difficult to explain, but I hope this helps. You'll see what I mean when you get in there. The E Brake wire is a single wire coming off the E Brake switch and is located directly behind the fuse block when you pop out the little hinged coin holder. Unfortunately, you can't see anything through there because of the fuse block.

    Good Luck!

Sorry...just saw Jon's post while I was typing. 1st Gen may be different because I can vouch that on the 2nd Gen, there's a single wire (green / yellow) coming off the E Brake switch...just a pain to get to but doable with a little brute force and ignorance

I used a $5 bypass off ebay and wired it in the adapter harness. easy peezy.

Thanks for the tips man! I was able to track the wire knowing the color from you. I was actually able to get it spliced in down on the firewall close to the actual sensor. There was a little more room to work with. It's up and running great, too cold to mess with the back up camera though. I'll deal with that come spring time.

Awesome...glad it helped and I wish I had traced it out better for easier access. I only swapped out the HU (factory speakers still) and WOW what a difference in sound. Haven't used it much, but so far very happy with the AVH 2800!

Me too man, need new speakers for sure. But it really amped up the stockers. The features on it are awesome for the cost :headbang:

Are you hooking it up to an aftermarket camera or factory?

Factory, I've got the hookup thread bookmarked. My 09 has the camera and the wiring ran but no mirror screen (base model).

I just left my factory camera connected to the mirror for now since it's an 09...I may try messing with the back-up camera later down the road. I read that a lot of people had trouble getting a clear image on their aftermarket HU. If I do it, I would like to keep the factory camera though.

I have the factory camera too and thought it'd be interesting in using the pioneer for the screen instead of the mirror
