Wanted a set of seriously capable offroad tires I could use strictly for trail use. The only time these will see the highway is getting to the trail and back home.

After some research I found I was between the BFG KM3 and Toyo open country MT. I dug a little further and read several people stating their KM3s were not true to size. I read the opposite for the Toyos, and being made in Japan and all, we already know they’re going to be great. So I got the Toyos.

fitment- they clear my truck. (19 2.7 4x4) stock Toyota steel wheels. They come very close to rubbing the UCA , but they clear it.

ride- they ride surprisingly well for a MT. Granted , they’re brand spanking new. I drove 8 miles on the interstate between 65-70. They’re not as well planted to the road as say a regular highway tire, but it’s hardly noticeable. They have a roar. Personally, I do not care because they will not be daily driven on.

I have yet to test them offroad, but I have a trip I’m planning sometime in April and they’ll definitely be broken in after that.

    hope pics help.

Excellent pictures. Finally, someone posts pizza cutter pictures that actually illustrate how the tires actually look. Been watching 255 threads for three years and only a very few have shot pictures that do. Yours did. Kuddos.

Just out of curiosity you mentioned they would only see the road when you head to the trail. I know most people buy aggressive tires and DD them and deal with the noise. Are you planning to flip these out with a DD set that are a bit more road worthy? I have been entertaining that style idea if I ever felt the want to go to a MT if my offroading gets a little more frequent/crazy.

Great tire. I ran them for 46k miles before upgrading. Road noise is noticable but you can still chat over it. I've never been stuck with that tire either

3 trips to uwharrie national forest, did all the trails. 1 trip to windrock. Mixture of black and blue trails. I think they’re great tires. I air them down to 15-17 psi off-road. They handle on road just fine. I have approx 5-7k miles on them. No major wear at all. They’re a heavy beast of a tire. With steel rims mounted they’re about 93 pounds per wheel/tire. Very confidence inspiring off-road. 80 mph+ capable on road.

Is your truck an auto and was it a dog on the highway with the e load tires?
