    Hello, everyone. Finally considering tinting the Taco :)

    I know for a fact the front windows (front sides & windshield) are 70% VLT (Variable Light Transmission AKA lights that passes through) and am debating whether to put 45% or 55% over it. I live in Cali so I would like it to be nice and dark to somewhat get closer the rear darkness, but not too dark to the point where cops will bother me.

    How it's calculated:

    + 45% VLT
    45% VLT on top of 70% VLT
    0.45 x 0.7 = 31.5
    = 31.5% VLT total (darker)

    +55% VLT
    55% VLT on top of 70% VLT
    0.55 x 0.7 = 0.385
    = 38.5% VLT total (slightly lighter)

    If anyone has either one of these setups, please share a couple of pics!

    No idea what percentage it is. I just told them to match the rear door glass. They got pretty close.20210213_110124.jpg

    Although not particularly helpful, thanks for your input!

    Lemme see if I can help you find out what % they added
    - STOCK FRONT: 70% AKA 0.70
    - STOCK REAR: 20% AKA 0.20

    So if the front is at ~20% and was originally 70%
    0.20 / 0.70 = 0.286 ---> 28.6%
    28.6% ---> 30%
    So your tint guy must've added 30% to your front :)
    (and the front's sitting at a total of 21%)

    45 and 55 isn't going to to help not get a ticket. They are all illegal. Why not just go with the most comfortable option? I like 20% but its a little warmer in your part of the state. Its only a fix it ticket, and if you know a guy they will just sign it off for you.

    Very true, but the thing is . . . More dark = more cops. It's a proven fact, lol. Of course, going any darker than factory is illegal, but not going too dark will definitely minimize the amount of cop-attention one might get.

    Around here in LA area seems like LAPD no longer care about tinted windows. People driving around with completely tinted windshields that are so dark , you can’t see the driver waving you by at you at a 4 way stop sign.

    This is 20% ceramic added to all the windows. The fronts are just slightly lighter than the rears, which looks completely normal. Oh, and the windshield is 50% ceramic. I don’t think it’s dark at all. I personally wouldn’t want the tint any lighter than what I have. Then again, this is coming from someone who has had 5% tint on plenty of vehicles in the past.94A7D27D-8367-4DD7-869A-2A1509DA03CD.jpg6A45AC37-F4FA-4AB1-9B61-50EC4E734205.jpg

    I went as dark as Florida law allows with ceramic tint all around except the windshield. Didn't want an insurance company claiming my vision was obstructed and denying a claim, so I just use a sun shade when I'm parked.

    I'll take a better pic outside, but we just got ours 20% ceramic. Just the front 2 (was a free job). Just slightly lighter than stock rears. I know hard to tell in this pic.

    I've got 15 percent on the front windows and 45 on the Windshield. Never been pulled over. I think they nail you for it while they're at it if they pull you over for something else.

    Yes, I can see at night. I have had this type of tint on the last 4 cars I've owned. The only issue I have ever had is: Seeing out the back window at night when there is no moon or street lamps to light up what's behind me. I have to roll down my window (or in this case, slide open the back window) when I back up...for safety.

    I have never been pulled over because of my window tint. I was pulled over about 4yrs ago for a traffic offense (I was let go with a warning). When I did, I rolled all of my windows down immediately. The cop even told me "Thanks for rolling them down so I can see inside your car. It's a safety thing for us. If we can't see it, we get worried."

    ***EDIT***: I want to also note that the reason I always tint my windows so dark is because I live in North Texas, in June, July & August (and usually September), the temp's can be unbearable. If I park my truck outside and it's 105 degrees, the window tint helps reduce the heat significantly. (It's ceramic tint)

    If I ever get a ticket or hassled about my level of tint, then I'll stop doing it. But in the past 15yrs, nothing has happened.

    I never thought about it. When I do get windows tinted they just automatically tint the same as what is on there .
