Plugged in my phone to the Tacoma today and it doesn't register as connected. Connects via Bluetooth but not with the USB. It's charging when plugged in, just not registering. Here's what I've noticed

No connection to Android Auto causing....
Android auto to not show up as an input option on the radio
Cannot access maps through the phone on the head unit.

I get the notification below that I'm connecting to a no compatible analog device. Phone is a Google pixel 3. Worked just fine yesterday. Hope this all makes sense

    Any ideas?

Edit: I bought a new USB cable this morning, when it happened, thinking that it was the cable. problem remained.

    Oh look, another mod....
    1) Reboot the phone.
    2) Reseat the usb cable.
    3) Test the usb cable on another device (like another car/truck or computer)
    4) Replace the usb cable.
    5) Try a different phone with the same cable.

What USB are you plugged into? I think only the one on the dash is connected to the radio.

The one in the dash. Literally just stopped working today. it's charging when it's plugged in, just seems like the phone and/or truck don't recognize each other anymore.

Hmm. Maybe try holding down the power button on the radio to reset it and make sure andriod auto is turned on the radio. I know it shouldn't turn off by itself but worth checking.

I'll try that later on. It's just odd. I normally use Android Auto to set navigation on my truck's head unit, but it doesn't connect, that's how I figured out it wasn't working. maybe a reset will help.

Fried restarting the radio. Tried 2 different USB cables. Phone doesn't connect and, noticed, it doesn't charge from the truck. It's not the phone, phone charged off the USB port in a different truck.

I know this is an older post, but I’m new and have this same issue. It’s been ongoing. My dealership replaced my USB port on the dash. It didn’t fix it. It will work some days, others it won’t. Sometimes it will charge but not connect, and other times it connects but won’t charge. I’ve tried different phones and cables. Any help would be awesome.

Just to add to this, I use an iPhone. So I don’t think the type of phone matters

Anyone find a solution or a cause to this issue? My truck just recently started doing this.... It will charge (very slowly) or sometimes say 'USB Error' and the port basically shuts off until I restart my truck. Very frustrating.

Android auto doesn't work over the wired connection. When you plug your phone in android auto should detect the headunit over usb and automatically turns on bluetooth so that it can connect. There is no data transfer via USB, so you can still use AA if the USB port is acting up, just turn on bluetooth on your phone.

Did you do an update to your phone recently? Or is your android auto in need of an update?

I don't believe this is correct. I have tried reinstalling AA and have been listening to music using the Bluetooth source since "projection" of android auto does not function. Head unit even says phone needs to be plugged in to the USB for Android auto projection to function.

There are a few things recommended upthread. Read the whole thing. Also, my most recent post is how I fixed mine.
