New to the forum. I have a2022 Tacoma TRD sport. I want to upgrade the exhaust system for less restriction and the intake for now. Recommendations please. Exhaust start with the OEM TRD from a dealer or aftermarket? Same for cold air intake, there are many options so a bit overwhelmed. Any help is appreciated.

You listed two giant money wasters. Neither will add any power, only noise.

agree on most but do you not believe the OEM (stock) has so much more potential?

Most Everyone here likes to piss in each other's cheerios about what performance mods do or dont work. Only way for you to know what you like is to try and see what it does

    All of them.
Not without forced induction. A tune will do more than any bolt on and cost half as much.

    Hi Bill,
If anything, getting rid of the crap OEM tires will be your number one performance mod. The gun safe center console mod rocks. Trifold bed cover or a topper would be high on my list. Coming from the hot rod world, I am always tempted to try and give an exhaust more growl. Ive wasted tons of money on intake/exhaust and it never paid off. Not once. Have fun with your new Taco!

I have seen zero evidence that any aftermarket exhaust or intake provides a measurable performance increase. It's likely the two systems are optimally tuned from the factory. My semi-educated guess is that unless you also change something significant about the engine (e.g. add forced injection), you are not likely see much difference from different exhausts or intakes.

Which is proof that they don't work, mind you. If they did there wouldn't be any shit fighting because someone would just post the dynos and everyone else would have to shut the hell up. ;)

I've enjoyed my s &b intake along with a kdmaxx tune. I am loaded down and usually avg 16.5mpg per tank.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
This about sums it up. I had the TRD Performance Exhaust on my '06. System was still intact when I sold it 15 years later.
I bought my '21 with it as well - somewhat for the sound, mostly for the durability.

I will say this…I bought the TRD cold air intake and installed it, didn’t notice any difference.

I got the truck tuned (I went with KDMax) and it’s like driving a different truck. Totally amazing how much it helps and it’s the best money I’ve spent on the truck.

I’m not knocking your desire to mod your truck, I’m just saying from experience that getting it tuned will be about 1000% more effective in regards to increasing the drivability than a CAI.

OP, get tuned 1st, then add intake&exhaust.
Significant difference if you have all 3.

I would say that cai on a modern computer controlled engine are pretty much snake oil. As far as exhaust goes, unless your prepared to do something radical, like cut off the mullers and cats to go completely to strait pipes, you won't get any performance gains. Even if you did go to strait pipes, I doubt you would get any noticeable gains. A good start is definitely a tune for a performance gain. You could also attack it from the other direction and get a regear.

FYI: people have posted dyno results for various ECU tunes that show a performance increase. One caveat is that I have not seen any results for below 3000 rpm.

I'm not sure there's ever any contention over tunes, for what it's worth. I think we're all pretty much agreement that stock ECU tuning kind of sucks.

It's the cold air intakes, exhaust/exhaust tips, etc that are all shitfights.

I have a better flowing aftermarket muffler and TRD air filter. I can tell you there is absolutely no measurable or noticeable difference between when it was stock and now. I only have the muffler because I wanted it louder and air filter as it is serviceable. Now perhaps coupled with a good quality tune you may get better gains but even then they will be minimal. Tunes for our trucks seem to be geared more towards drivability etc.

Shocking, isn't it? Why would anyone mention tunes in a performance upgrade thread? Lol

I'm just happy nobody's waving their dicks around boasting about how their tune is the best. :D
