Won't do anything. These ECUs can't be tricked or modified especially by a plug in adapter. That's why supercharged/turbo'ed 1st gens run a piggyback or replacement customizable ecu to do any tuning.

what makes the Tacoma ECU different from say, a Mercedes GT-R ECU? Why would they not want you to plug into the ECU? The Mercedes allows for a plug in tuning chip, and those have a much higher price tag

Toyota ECUs are just notoriously impossible to crack unlike other brands. To my knowledge no one has been able to do it with a 1st gen ECU except OVTune got close, and was going to sell a tune for our trucks but then decided to focus primarily on his 3rd gen turbo kits instead.

He has a thread on here somewhere about it, back when he's was gauging interest. In it I remember him saying how difficult it was to crack a Toyota ecu, 1st gen in particular

From an engineering standpoint, theyre probably ccompletely different animals under the hood. I would expect that every car manufacturer has their own design of processor and firmware, and then theyimplement a minimum common obdii protocol for everyone's generic code scanners. So to really crack them, you have to understand the underlying software.

Seems like it would be relatively easy to change an odometer then

The Feds don't look too kindly on that lol, though its not impossible which is why Carfax will flag 'suspected odometer fraud' if a vehicle's mileage history doesn't add up.

Why not? What’s the process consist of? I’ve seen it done on non-electronic odos, I’m just interested in how the electronic ones are altered

The taco engines do pretty much everything they can do. They're not detuned, they're Maxed out.

The difference between a pc from the 1980’s and now. The older ecu’s weren’t ever meant to receive flash updates. You could program your own standalone Haltech or other aftermarket ecu but you’d have to start from the fundamental knowledge of what the engine will want from the ecu.

I put one of those, a chip, and an hho generator on my truck. It actuator created gas out of thin air. Unfortunately I stepped on it once and the truck went so fast I went back in time.
