Well if you’ve got a manual on 37s and you like your clutch…

It’s technically a performance enhancement. I don’t own a single vehicle that hasn’t been regeared lol. Ok maybe the subie

    Definitely is yeah.

But even on 33s I feel 4.88s would really help out in some situations. If I had AT, then torque converter would just multiply torque and all is good.

Welcome. Regear and ov tune. Even if you don’t go up in tires. Will definitely see the enhancement.

Those turbo kits, the exhaust down pipes , handheld tuners (that no one could update) didnt go over so well. Lots of people bought into expensive useless parts. Lots of trust.

oh, "free updated tunes for the life of the truck" and we barely got out of the beta phase before changing the format and requiring a new program that you had to pay for.

I will definitely agree on the turbo. Still
though hats off to him to be the first to build a twin turbo kit for the Tacoma that sort of worked.

Personally, I’ve had no issues with customers service when I got my REG key and a tactrix cable, was quick and easy process. I did hear some folks saying it took forever for a reply and such.

tune tune tune. What they charge seems like a real rip off, but it makes a night and day difference. Anyone who likes to debate getting them doesnt have one. This is specifically about the V6 Automatic Tacoma.

How do you find one, ask around here or do a search. Your not going to get one at Autozone or the dealer. They use proprietary software to adjust the vehicles performance. This is enabled mostly for tuners or racers who are squeezing more out of their vehicles. Dealers wont make changes and probably dont know how.

The guys that do it have learned through trial and error on their own and others vehicles what works. There are like 4 or 5 guys that have very good reliable tunes and will probably charge from 200 to 300 bucks to apply it to your truck if you go that way.

Id bet a large portion of people on this forum have it done and have had no confirmed linked problems. Like thousands of trucks.

When I did my OTT tune, the Rep said to try it out and if I didn't like it, he'd remove it, no questions asked.

I felt the difference (after a year of driving my Sport) and kept it.

It isn't cheap but not overwhelmingly expensive.

Until you try it, there's no value in making judgments.

agreed it was very impressive feat (twin turbo kit). But you remember so many other things he sold that werent as billed. Lots of upset customers for parts they couldnt get tunes for. Still wouldnt place him in the trust category for performance parts.

Let's be honest, these things are a brick going down the road. If you want some acceleration and better shifting look into tuning it. If you plan on lifting and putting bigger tires on it, it will only be that much more of a brick without a tune. I've seen plenty of complaints with Pedal Commanders, for the money a tune is worth it. A tune will be night and day difference.

I went with the OTT tune and couldn't be happier. No need to wait 10k miles or whatever. Just get it done. Truck drives so much better.

Since you have the Auto, you have 3.90 gears in your truck. If you find a set of 4.30's from a manual truck and install them, you would feel a sit of the pants improvement through torque multiplication but there would be no improvement from the engine. Any regear will have a positive and a negative... the negative will be higher RPM on the highway and possible lower fuel economy.

A regear can wake up the vehicle even with factory tires. It increases torque multiplication.

Back in my Mustang days, that was one of the first mods... pull the 2.73's or 3.08's out and install 3.55, 3.73 or 4.10's depending on your level of crazy. Made those short wheel base cars violent beasts just with that change.

I find the performance of the V6 with an MT to be more than adequate - but then again I have been driving a 30 year old JDM Turbo Diesel SUV with 4 speed auto that when new would do 0-100kph (62ish MPH) in just under 17 seconds. I don't know what it currently does 0-100kph as I am not willing to push it that hard.

    4 cylinders or 6 cylinders?

If you have the auto and V6 the truck learns your driving style over time, so to stop the "gear searching", stop lugging low RPMS, use the ECT button, let the VVT V6 run in higher RPMS where the transmission and engine work better, and use S Mode on the shifter.

Yes, a tune is absolutely worth the money and don't waste your cash on a Pedal Commander or similar throttle plug-in thingy.
